I have passat 1.9 tdi variant,2001. year.my batery is dead.when i take a new batery i was missing code for radio in car.type of radio is vw gamma.when i switch radio on, on the display write safe.please...

How to exit the 1998 VW Passat radio out of SAFE mode:
IMPORTANT NOTE: You must have the security anti-theft code for your VW radio from the car manufacturer, or from a VW dealer!
The sequence of radio programming is:
1. Push simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys until on the screen will appear "1000" displayed.
2. Release keys. No more push on "SCAN" and "RDS" keys because otherwise number "1000" will be considered as first safe code attempt.
3. By the #1 key you will set up the first safe code digit.
4. By the #2 key you will set up the second safe code digit.
5. By the #3 key you will set up the third safe code digit.
6. By the #4 key you will set up the four-th safe code digit.
7. Then push again simultaneous "SCAN" and "RDS" keys for confirm this safe code. On the screen will be displayed "SAFE" notice. Release keys! For few seconds a radio frequence will be displayed. The radio is now ready for use!

Stereo removal??? What needs to be removed to get the radio out

Hi is it factory standard?

If so there should be 4 little holes 2 either side, you can get a tool to fit into these holes then the radio pops out, some are a bit different and you have to remove the little plastic trim around the stereo, then you slide another special tool down the side to pull it out, they are very cheap to buy the tool. this kit on ebay has all the tools for most cars, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Laser-Radio-Removal-Tool-Kit-3727-VW-Audi-Merc-BMW-Ford_W0QQitemZ140399468831QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Hand_Tools_Equipment?hash=item20b075e11f you can make your own tool also with a coat hanger.

Dan

WHERE IS THE FILLER PLUG ON THE GEARBOX ON A 1998 PASSAT TDI PLEASE

Hi,

Just checking.... it is a manual gearbox?

You may need a special tool for the drain plug and a 17mm allen key for the filler (some use the special drain tool for the filler as well)

The drain plug is located under the diff housing.

The filler plug is located on the left (nearside) off the gearbox (look to the left of the hole and you can see the 17mm hex filler bung).

Check you can undo the filler bung, then drain the gearbox oil.

Refit drain bung and fill gearbox through filler/level ********* until gearbox oil is up to the level of the filler bung.

Refit, test drive, check for leaks and retest level again when cold.

Cheers,

How do you put rear brake pistons back in on a seat toledo 19 tdi 1999

Not sure exactly what you are asking , but, if you need to compress the cylinder so new pads fit , you have to turn and push at the same time. Threads in like a screw , but I cant remember if it is clockwise or counter. I ground down an old 7/8 socket till it had two little teeth on it and presto ( VW special tool # bla bla bla)
