Question about 2008 Subaru Impreza Wrx

1 Answer

Sitting still at a light, clutch half way in in neutral, pushed the clutch all the way in to go into first and I heard a popping noise, then it was like the clutch is sticky but with no pressure, its like its hooked, and clicked almost on its way back up, I feel like it doesn't fully ingage, and going into third letting it all the way out rpms go way up because it doesn't release. Putting the clutch in is too easy, and coming out is very slow, I have to fast shift to get it from roaring in rpms. Also it's a 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX. Help please!

UNfortunately it sounds like your clutch has failed...and is slipping.....it sounds like the pressure plate may have fractured......and considering it is a wrx, this would definetly be the weakest point as the gearboxes are almost indestructible......

Loud snapping noise heard when changing gears

From the way you've described it your gear stick linkages maybe on there way out. When changing gear does the car resist getting into gear?

If it's more of a crunching sound then I would try double de clutching, to do this you need to:
change gear as usual but instead of holding down the clutch throughout the gear change hold it down to take the vehicle into neutral then release the clutch then push the clutch down again and change into desired gear.
To change down it's basically the same principal but you push down the clutch to put the vehicle into neutral then push the throttle down just to pitch revs then release the throttle and push the clutch down to change into your desired gear, if it won't go in to gear easily then rather the throttle until it does.

You can go onto youtube and search for double de clutching and I'm sure some results will come up

hope this helps!

Grinding when clutch is not engaged. Sound goes away when clutch IS engaged (i.e. pushed to the floor). Only makes noise when you let clutch out and while driving. Makes noise sitting in neutral too.

the throw out bearing is what I am thinking Sue.
may as well have a new clutch put in too as its the same amount of labor to do the whole thing as it is to just replace the throw out bearing.

Either clutch nuetral safety switch or antitheft system turning off starter.

Ive heard of people bypassing the clutch neutral safety switch. I beleive it is as simple as finding the button under the clutch pedal and snipping the two wires and twisting together

(¦n?·tr?l ?s?f·t? ?swich)

(electricity) An electric switch that is connected to the ignition switch of an internal combustion engine and prevents starting the engine unless the transmission shift lever is in the neutral or park position, or the clutch pedal is depressed.

Might try tilting the steering wheel up or down and starting in different positions, maybe loose wire in tilt.
