An oil leak like that should not be too difficult to locate. Clean the underside as best you can and start the engine. Look carefully till you locate the source. If you cannot do that, bring it to a shop. They can do a dye test to find it. You cannot "think" your way through this one and can loose your engine from low or no oil while people are "guessing" what the cause is!!!!

I had similiar problem and found a bad gasket on the oil pump.
wasn't easy to figure it out because the engine has to be running to pinpoint the source.
With the engine off, the underside just looks like oil is coming from everything when it's the pump that's leaking.
At first I thought it might be the oil pump itself the way it was spraying out, but after removing it noticed there wasn't much left of the old gasket.

It could be that the Oil Filter Has not been replaced properly.

Hi leader534,
Well when it comes to oil leaking out it really could be a number of problems such as...your oil line could have came un-hooked some how, your oil filter could need to be replaced,it could be your oil draining bolt under your car that you loosen whenever you change your cars oil could have not been threaded back on under the car correctly causing a broken seal which could cause you oil to drain out slowly.

But Since you stated it is leaking out fast it probily it was my first presumption and that means your oil line that flows the oil from your oil pump which is usualy Really close near by to your oil tank that pumps oil to you car's engine but instead it sounds like it came unhooked somehow and is disconnected somewhere which means instead of basicly going from point A or (the oil pump) to Point B (the car's engine) the line got unhooked somwhere so it the most likely leaked out oil after attempting to go from point A (or in your case you car's oil pump) and never making it to point B (or in your case your car's engine) and that means the oil line hose isn't connected to both the engine and the pump now it's probily now just connected to just one or the other.

Well at least that's the only thing I could think your car's problem could be.Don't feel to bad because the same thing happend to me one time last year on my Yamaha Jog Next Zone 49cc Gas Scooter and get this I was just finished parking it on it's center stand in an Auto Zone Parking lot so i could get ready and go inside and exchange a starter for one of my really old run down antique Cars.

Alright well I hope I at least helped you a little with your most likely quite stressful oil leaking problem I hope I've helped you at least a little bit.

    Hey there Myki R,

That's a could be a valid possibillity thank you for catching that I forgot about that possibillity I guess that one slipped my mind. Nice job that's a good point because with a defctive oil filter or an incorrectly installed one or even without an oil filter altogether oil would most likely just pour back onto the ground which would almost be just like taking the oil bottle and just emptying it somewhere on the ground.

Well Like I said earliar goodjob for catching that one.

My oil light came on for my 1999 chevy cavalier, it was a quart low,I added it and it was fine but a few days later the oil light came on again

You must have an oil leak . And if you are looseing that much oil that fast its got to be a main bearing seal likely the rear . Get a good size peice of cardboard and put it under the vehicle near where the transmission meats the engine . Do it fast after you park it so the engine will still have some pressure and see where its leaking . You could not possibably burn that much oil in a few days no matter how worn the engine is . But the first step it to locate where its leaking from

You're burning oil internally, depending on Model Year and mileage it would probably be the piston rings.

How many guarts of 75/90 gear oil does a 1999 silverado 4x4 rear end take

this is going to depend on a bunch of variable, engine, ring gear size etc. Try this site, you can pick all your variables.

If you don't know what size ring gear my best recommendation would be buy 4-5 quarts and then return the full one(s) that you have left. I have a 2007 chevy 2500 hd with the duramax and I think mine took just a shade under 3 quarts.

What engine?

General rule, have 6 quarts available. Put in 4 quarts, check level. If still low, add quart. Start engine, run for a minute. Stop, re-check oil level and fill to point on dipstick.

I WOULD THINK NO LESS THAN 5 QUARTS.DO YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE WRONG DIP STICK.IF NOT CHANGE OIL AND FILTER,PUT IN 4 OR 5 QUARTS FIRE IT UP FOR THIRTY SECONDS WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND CHECK LEVEL.DO THIS UNTIL IT SHOWS UP FULL ON STICK.RECHECK AFTER A FEW HOURS OF SITTING IN CASE OF SLUDGE IN MOTOR.
