Question about 1987 Volkswagen Cabriolet

1 Answer

My v.w. cabriolet, 1987, seems to run fine and then at times it will stall each time i apply the brakes. other times it will not respond to the accel. pedal, like it is fuel starved. when it stalls, it generally starts right back up.

I have a 1997 Fiesta auto, runs fine apart from a slight gearbox issue. When starting from cold and selecting Drive the car will sit there for upto 5 seconds before moving away and will stall if the brakes...

I would be looking for a vacumn hose leaking. The cold engine needs a rich mixture and braking uses the vacumn booster causing the mixure to lean. A warm engine races with the extra air.

My car seems to be starving for gas

Yes you may replace your fuel filter and check for the adjustment of the carburetor float level. Try also cleaning the whole carb specially the metering orifice and other small passages.
