Question about 1990 Ford F150

1 Answer

After driving fifity miles with a load of wood,my engine started to hestitate and lose power. It did so after coming to a completestop.I pulled off the road .My truck would repeatedly start, but the engine would die.The temperature gauge started to go up a bit. I checked my fluid levels and they were allright. I had my truck towed. After about 30 minutes my mechanic told me that he started it up and it was idiling fine. Upon returning to his shop on Monday,he checked the fuel pump and the fuel filter and started the truck. He said he couldn't find anything wrong. Can you suggest any possible problems? Thanks!

Drive it up a long hill again, if it loses power again, chances are you have a plugged catalytic converter.

Passat losing power when driving, all lights on dash come on, then the lights go back off. If I turn car off won't start acts like battery is dieing, what 30 min or so than car turns on. Drive a few miles...

This could also be a faulty fuel pump relay. I had a Honda Prelude that would not restart when hot, but if I let the engine bay cool down for 10 minutes, it would start no problem.

What happens if the drive belt breaks

if a drive belt breaks, the debris can interfere with other engine components and do additional damage. rule of thumb belt life is 6yrs or 60000 miles. the belts operate critical engine systems ( alt, water pump, power steering pump) not something to short cut on. belts are noisey when cold due to additional load from battery use when starting or cold fuuids. have belts and tensioners checked for wear and correct operation

Head lights dimming and losing power while driving

Next time this happens, pull over and unscrew the gas cap. The vent may be clogged.

Otherwise, your catalytic converter may be failing. It can also clog and hinder engine exhaust.

Good luck !
