Question about Ford Explorer

2004 FORD EXPLORER--WILL START, THEN QUITS--WHEN IT STOPS IT ACTS LIKE IT IS DOING A TROUBLE SHOOT ON THE DASH IT GOES THROUGH EVERYTHING LIKE YOU JUST TURNED THE KEY ON. AT ONE TIME THE SYMBOL WRENCH APPEARED, ALSO AT ONE TIME THE ENGINE WOULD ONLY REV. TO 2000 RPM'S. WHEN EVER YOU PUT IT INTO GEAR IT STPS. WAS RUNNING PERFECT WHEN DRIVEN EARLIER IN THE DAU.

When I turned it on again...the wrench symbol disappeared. The book says that the symbol means electronic limp home mode. Is this the error code you speak of?

Something is horribly wrong in the ECM - it most likely has detected a big fault in the wiring and shuts down the engine to protect it. Tow your car to a shop ASAP, there's nothing more you can do; waiting for the fault to fix it by itself will only make it bigger and more expensive.

Hi. I suggest to have your car checked and probably provide us an error code so we can provide you solution for the issue. Based on my experience, wrench light symbol actually tells you that the Harmonic Balancer is starting to fail. I may suggest that you need to have that one checked also.

Door ajar alarm is on constantly when dash lights dimmer is on. Turn to off and alarm stops

Your best bet would be to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop that's good with automotive electrical problems . Checking for DTC'S diagnostic trouble codes would be a good first step . The GEM - generic electronic module is fords BCM - body control module . There is a door ajar switch located in each door , when a door is open the GEM module detects this an turns on the alarm (chime ,bing or what ever noise yours makes ) Also turns on the little car symbol showing a particular door as being open . You could have a GEM module problem , Or you could go to www.bbbind.com/ Find wiring diagrams an try to trouble shoot this yourself. Go on youtube an watch videos on basic electrical trouble shooting , how to read a wiring diagram . Plus check out some repair videos door ajar switch problems !

My 2004 ford explorer keeps blowing the ignition fuse also i noticed that my windshield wipers also stopped working

You have a short to ground on that circuit ,the only way to find it is to find a wiring diagram an see what all gets power from that fuse .Then isolate each circuit until the fuse doesn't blow any more . Go to youtube an check out some videos on finding a short on automotive wiring . Also I suggest you check out some videos on basic automotive electrical trouble shooting . Finding an fix automotive electrical shorts is best left to a automotive electrical repair shop !

Battery light flashing

The battery light on, is an indication of alternator failure. If your battery is more than 3 years old it needs replacement . A bad battery can damage a new alternator (full field condition). The age of your truck warrants inspection of the charging system. It requires at Least 20 amps output, from the alternator to run the engine.

2004 Ford Explorer not starting

Is the engine turning over? When you turn the key to the on position, does it behave normally? IE, do the battery and airbag and other lights come on when you turn the key to on position?
