Definately bad battery. Does not have enough capacity to crank engine. Battery should be charged and tested, if faulty replace. If not faulty, check charging system (alternator) is working using a voltmeter on battery when running. With load on (lights on, wipers on etc) it should charge at anywhere between 13.5 and 14.5 volts.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your suggestion GeckoNZ. I have had the battery and alternator tested with a voltmeter and both a good. Could this be a bad fuse or light bulb? Before this my control panel would intermittently tell me that my rear tail light was not operational.

Your battery is bad, take it to an auto parts where they can charge the battery, and do a load test on it, but more then likely weak or bad battery, after you get the car started, have the alternator check out if the battery was discharge, hope this was very helpful.

You need to find the starter. If you are not sure where it is,call a dealer or a shop, someone will tell you for free to attract future business.Tap on it 3 or 4 times with a hammer, not too hard, not too soft then try to start it up.It may take several tries but will work. Then get the starter replaced.Good luck! Won't start but can hear starter make a click noise when trying to start with key

will it start with a jump ? if it does replace the battery and have the charging system tested, if it will not start with a jump then most likely you will need to replace the starter.

I tried to start my 94Sunbird-I heard clicking for a few seconds & then nothing. Battery is good & it couldn't be jump started. How can I find out if it's the starter or something else? help?

one easy way is to have someone hold key in crank ing position, then another person needs to hit or tap the starer housing itself.if engine begins to crank intermittently or ur cliking noise turns into small jolts of the starter trying to crank then u can bet its the strtr motor. u do need a charged batt for this test. also chek ur battery grounds they can dramatically affect starter operation if we have a voltage drop anywhere in starter circuit .chek batt cables r tight on batt posts, loose batt cables on battery will also give u clicking noise w no starter operation

I try to start my truck up which is a 2003 ford expedition and it makes a ticking noise! well i jus changed the starter and its still making that noise. could it be the alternator or whats the problem?

The starting system consists of:
  • starter motor
  • starter switch, part of the ignition switch
  • digital transmission range (TR) sensor (automatic transmission-equipped vehicles)
  • starter motor solenoid relay switch
  • starter solenoid
  • starter drive
When you turn your key to start your engine, it just clicks, right? If so, more than likely this is due to a bad battery. Even though your battery may appear to be fully charged, it may have a dead cell, or worse. If you get a jump, does the vehicle start? If so, replace your battery.

Possible sources of the problem if the engine does not crank or the relay clicks:
  1. Battery
  2. Starter motor
  3. Starter motor relay
  4. Ignition switch
  5. Damaged fuse
  6. Anti-theft system
  7. Circuitry

Security on. car wont crank. can trun key wont

verify that you have a fully charge battery and that you have the same amount of voltage at the battery as at the starter when the key is turned to the start position. If not repair fault at positive cable either at battery or at starter. If voltage checks good. Use a remote starter and turn key to the on position and try to crank over engine with remote starter. if engine cranks over. You have a defective starter solenoid and starter must be replaced.

Mazda 929 ..engine won't crank .. batt is full

is it making any noise at all, if it makes whineing noise but not crank, its a timing issue, if it has no noise at all it is likely the started, try banging on it when someone turns the key

i believe if you remove the steering wheel upper and lower covers, there will be a button to push to allow the removal of the key..as for the no start, the battery light is on because of the alternator. Its faulty. the clicking sound could very well be the starter not having enough power reaching to turn it over again unless you put a power pack on it...try a brand new battery, test the alternator and removed the key..it is possible the the key not shutting off the way, is drawing power from the battery not allowing to start that way, causing what they call a "parasitic drain". charge battery, remove key. try that

Make sure your Battery terminals are clean and cable clamps tight.Clicking is most likely a starter selodiod not engaging the starter motor. When it goes you need to change the starter. If you can see the starter you can try this to start and get the repair done.Try taping the soleniod (the small unit ontop or bottom, side of the starter). If you have anyone who can give you a jump start with cables this sometimes works due to the extra power if your battery is not full or lost it's cranking amps. Finally if you can see the connections on the starter jump with an INSULATED screw driver (key in the on possition)you should hear the starter turn. Good Luck

My 03 impala wont start up ..wen i turn the key jus clickin noise

if the clicking is repeated with out you releasing the key then the battry is in need of charging or replacing, if its a one click each time then the starter motor is faulty.

1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass wont start

to start , make sure the battery is fully charged or try to jump start it. If the starter does not work after jump starting, check the wiring to the starter. be careful to label the wires where they go. Check all grounds. try to crank to engine. If it clicks and still does not turn or clicks only one or at all. Replace the starter.
