I think this is the actual clutch cable you discribe,it will come of at the end that goes to the housing or at the point it attaches to the clutch on box take another look and you will see a nut or a clip on the cable end.adrian,,,,,,,,,

Need to know what 5 speed transmissions will interchange with a 92 ranger with a 3.0

You didn't mention if it was 2 or 4 wheel drive so I went with a 2 wheel drive. According to hollander the 5 speed transmaaion fits a ranger (2WD) 1991 - 1994 and a Mazda B3000 1994 only. Hope this helps.....

transmission modulator valve is clogged. it will not show up on the computer, but will definately make your truck do what its doing. 88-94 rangers hav had technical service bulletins issued by Ford for this issue. Very easy to replace.

I have a 1987 ford ranger 4x4 and im trying to figure out how to remove the shifter linkage from the tranny to drop the tranny

Hi danielh_04,
There are two different manual transmissions for that year but both processes are about the same. You need to remove the screws from the shifter boot and pull it back to gain access to the top of the transmission through the floor board. You should see a cover with bolts. Remove the bolts and pull the cover off. Then you want to carefully pull up on the shifter. The lever, shim and the bushing should come out. After you get it removed, you can cover the hole with a rag and drop the transmission. Good luck,if you need anything else, let me know,Chuck.

Does the 3.0l transmission fit on the 4.0l engine

There are 5 automatic transmissions used in the Ford Ranger, Explorer and Mountaineer. They may be identified by checking the transmission code on the Safety Standard Certification Label attached to the driver's side door post, in the space marked Trans. The transmissions can also be identified by a tag attached to the lower left hand extension attaching bolt. The transmission codes are as follows:
  • 1991–94 code T is for the A4LD transmission
  • 1995–99 code T is for the 4R44E (2.3L, 2.5L & 3.0L) or 4R55E (4.0L) transmission
  • 1996–99 code U is for the 4R70W (5.0L) transmission
  • 1997–99 code D is for the 5R55E (5-speed automatic) transmission
So, what you need to do now is...establish from a FORD workshop, whether both the A4LD and 4R55E transmissions share the same components and mounting dimensions.

1986 ford ranger 4x4 2.9l leaks transmission fluid as fast as it will go in not leaking from dipstick tube loks like it is coming from around the flywheel

You are leaking at the converter seal on the pump. Many times this a result of a larger problem and as trans needs to be removed to replace it, have converter neck checked for cracks and support bushing in pump checked as well.

check the shift lever and make sure it goes all the way into reverse. remember it is all the way on the right and all the way back.

Has he changed the fluid? this might be all thats needed also can get some good additives these days to help sticking valves in transmission and not too expensive either (approx £30... $50 ?) which for the sake of this small outlay is worth the risk.
