The ambient air temp sensor should be easily replaced it is a black rectangular piece 1/2"x1/4" with a connector on one end, located behind the grille in front of the a/c condensor in the upper passenger side area.

SOURCE: outside temperature gauge for my malfunctions

The problem is a bad ambient air temp sensor or a broken wire to that sensor. The sensor usually is located in the front of the engine bay on the support for hood latch, between the outer grill and the radiator/condensor assemblies.

SOURCE: My engine temperature gauge reads hot but heating

It is possible that somehow your heater core is either blocked or airlocked. Best thing to do is to feel the two hoses that go to and from the heater core when the engine is up to normal operating temperature. If one hose is hot and the other is barely warm than you have a blocked up heater core. If you feel both hoses and they are barely warm than it is possible that you have an airlock in the system. The airlock is mostly likely to occur if you have recently had your heating system worked on such as a new radiator, thermastat, etc. If both hoses are hot then it could possibly be the heater blend doors inside the heater box could be stuck in the cold position. They are controlled from the switches on the dash. When you adjust the heat setting on the dial from hot to cold or cold to hot it moves the blend doors to either let more cold air in or more heat in. Hope this was helpful. Happy motoring.

Iv got vauxhall zafria model 2004 outside temperature symbol is not coming on dashboard is that a big problem should take it straight to gargage

No outside temperature just shows the temperature outside the car the snowflake symbol will not show up until it is cold enough outside it has 2 stages yellow is an initial warning of cold temperatures when it gets to freezing the symbol will turn red.
The outside temp warning is not connected to anything mechanical only the engine temerature gauge is so dont worry it will not affect the running of the car but is just there as a warning of falling temperatures outside.

My 2007 honda accord which was bought a few months ago,the outside temperature gauge has stopped working, also i noticed a week earlier a spot of oil on my driveway which came from the car near the drivers...

the outside temp could be the outside sensor, if you don't worry about knowing the outside temp its no problem, the oil leak is something to look into and repair

The radiator fan is not coming on when warm, but I still have heat and not over-heating?

Your heater blower, inside the car works to provide heat to the interior of your car, and the air is hot, right? If the cooling fan is not coming on, depending on the outside ambient temperature, you may be using your heater coil for the heater to dispell suficient heat (inside the car), combined with a low outside temperature to keep the engine at normal operating temperature negating the need for the cooling fan. OR your coolant temperature sensor is bad, and the ECU doesn't know that the engine is hot and to turn on the fan. This sensor works by changing the voltage returned to the ECU depending on the temperature of the tip, which changes the resistance to the computers inquiry. So, the computer knows the temp of the coolant. It uses this information to adjust mixture gauge etc. Most now have 2. One for the gauge, and another for the ECU. So don't go by the gauge working. Then there is the fan motor itself. This can be tested by using a testlight on the wires when the engine temperature gauge in at 3/4 to the hot side of the gauge. The other way to test is to bring a live wire to the motor. If the motor is good, the sensor is bad, if the motor is bad, well the motors bad. I hope this helps you, write back if you need additional assistance. . Please take the time to rate our free service, and my performance. Thank you for trying FixYa.com!

The temperature gauge does not seem to reach full operating temperature. The thermostat has been replaced but the temperature gauge drops if I am on the level or going downhill. The appointed agent says...

it will drop when going down hill and no load on engine ,this is normal ,think the shunt resistor in the gauge could be playing up where by its allowing the gauge to fluctuate a bit too quick, but the old adage applies here if it works leave well alone .Whats the outside temperature ?? this will have a big effect as well ,even more so if its below zero outside ,these cars a massive rad in them .Best advice is polish it and treat leather seats with cream and a nice vac out and it will run perfectly and never go wrong ,just like my sovereign

Had the same problem, replaced the ambient air temp sensor in front of the radiator. Cost is like 10-15 bucks. Don't worry if temp doesn't change right away. Took me about 5 miles and then it worked great.
