You are best off buying a book on the car for around 15 bucks for detailed instructions, and you will also need to purchase a steering wheel puller due to the fact that it is pressed on.. both the book and puller should be available at any local parts house

Where is the headlight relay in the 1998 jimmy? Low beams won't come onat night everything else does. high beams work

There is a headlight relay in the engine compartment fuse box, but its after the headlight switch and before the dimmer switch, so it powers both high and low beam circuits.
I would check the dimmer switch.

It sounds like the multi-function switch in your steering column has worn out. It will have to be replaced, you can't repair it. Hope this helps.

I have a 2001 ford explorer sport with no high or low beams. when i pull the signal/wiper arm towards me i get the "passing" high beam but other than that i am running on just fog lights. fuses...

yes, ideas, your headlight switch on the steering column may be going bad. try tilting your steering column up and down while pulling headlight switch on, do your headlights turn on and off by them selfs? careful!! this is a hot or positive wire grounding to metal, which could lead to a fire in the steering column!! do you ever see,or smell smoke coming from the steering wheel? if you do,disconnect the positive cable from your battery immeadiatlly!! the only way to replace the switch is the removal of your steering wheel,if you are'nt mechanically inclined,i recommend you get a 2nd opinion and go forward with your problem as it can lead to a fire in your steering wheel or fuse panel! if all your fuses are good, and only have fog lights, but no low or high beams, but pull back on the turn signal switch, you have a problem with the headlight switch.located on the 'turn signal, high beam, low beam switch' on the steering column. the only way to repair,is replace it. sorry!! can recommend autozone auto parts, advance auto parts or try used parts place.but if you are keeping the car, recommend"new" part replacement. thank you for choosing fixya.com!!if we can be of further assistance, please repost your questions to fixya.com!

Low beam headlights do not work ..replaced switch and high beam bulb

try the lights with the tilt wheel in the up position. If the low beam works then, a wire has pulled out of the connector on the mutipurpose switch inside the steering column. remove the covers behind the steering wheel on the column and there is a large multi wire plug with many wires. it should be obvious which wire has pulled out or broken.

Push brakes parking light comes on pull headlight switch no headlights

there is a good possibility that your multifunction switch is bad. this is the lever on the left side of the steering wheel that controls wipers and high beams. when they go bad, they cause all kinds of problems. also check out the headlight switch itself.

1994 Mercedes c280 high beams not working...

At first 1994 C280 high beams began to not connect regularly when stick pushed forward, then not at all. Drove high beams by pulling and holding stick back towards steering wheel until that stopped working, too. Shop said the turn signal switch was at fault-- had seen it many times before with W202; about $160 to replace. Haven't done it yet, but should be an easy fix?

pull dash panel and remove switch hardest part is getting the knob off. you must insert a small screw in the slot to release knobe. if its in the switch on the collum you would have to remove the sterring wheel to replace. haynes and chilton manuels for your car are a good way to learn about it and there only 20 bucks at parts stores. berrydalewolf

2003 GMC Envoy Low beam headlights will not work.

I would start by checking the headlight relay and headlight fuse.  You also may wanna check to make sure the bulbs aren't blown out.  If those parts check out to be fine and in working order, you may need to replace the turn signal assembly in the steering column.  This part controls the hi/low beams.  This may sound crazy but, when GM wired their older trucks, they wired the headlights to go from the battery, to the hi/low beam switch, then to the headlight switch (to the left of the steering wheel) then out to the light bulbs.  You can kind of test to see if this part is good by making a fist and (with your headlights on) gently hitting the plastic cover for your steering column that is right behind your actual steering wheel.  This could cause your headlights to flicker on and off.  It's not 100% guarenteed that this method will work, but it may.
Any questions, just ask!

The headlights are stuck on high beam.

pull on the signal lever toward you (ceter position). the signal lever controls the head lights either high beam or low beam. if you pull on the signal lever toward you again, you will have high beam temporarily. and if you push the signal lever towards the front, you will have the high beam locked.

What would cause both low beam headlights to go out at the same time? i have replaced the headlights and they still dont work.

The headlight high/low beam switch assembly.96 Safari has the turn signal stem as the high/low beam switch.Removal of the steering wheel is necessary to get to the switch assembly for replacement.
