Hi Mrs. C
the starter is NOT the problem the starter only cranks the engine has nothing to do once its running
it could need a TUNE UP depending on the mileage
If this was my vehicle i would replace the fuel filter and check the fuel pressure before you spend money on replacing the fuel pump
and FLUSH the FUEL INJECTORS
hope this helps

shakes and stalls indicates an engine problem-take it to autozone advanced auto or pepboys and have them check your onboard cpu for fault codes-cheers Denny

Sounds like at 1/4 reading, the actual reading of the fuel should be empty.Your gauge sending unit in the tank is most likely defective. Many are on these.

2002 Pontiac Montana stalls in stop-and-go traffic especially on a down hill grade. Have changed gas filter. Diagnostic didn't find anything unusual.

First off, when was last healthy tune up? Plugs, plug wires, ALL filters and a good fuel system cleaning? I'd start there, then have parts store like Autozone, Advance etc.. do an OBII fault scan. I'm suspecting of tune up doesn't help maybe an oxygen sensor or a MAF (Mass Air Flow meter) are strong possibilities. But tune it first, and get scan done before just throwing parts at it.

2006 Pontiac Montana wont start after replacing battery. Engine cranks as soon a key is moved from off, then continue to crank even after removing the key.

Sounds like your starter solenoid is stuck in the on position if you can get down there and have some one hook the battery on, hit the starter with a hammer some time this will disengage the starter.

We were in a parking lot and the engine shut off. I pulled into a stall shut it off and restarted and it drove fine. No warning lights appeared

Sometimes a little water in the gas can cause vapour lock & stalling. Put a little methyl hydrate( clean flow) in the gas. Also never fill up when you see a tanker at the service station filling station storage tanks. This tends to stir any dirt & water up into the gas & you get their problem. Good luck!
