There is an aluminum tube running around near the top of the engine with 2 plastic caps on it on either end.The cap nearest the belt system is the fill point. With the engine running and the a/c on,fill it up at one quarter can intervals and check the coldness.Once it is cold enough stop.Over filling the system too much could damage it.If you end up losing the coldness fairly quick, there is probably a leak and needs to be checked out but I haven't heard any complaints yet.It took my car 15 years before it leaked too.Good luck! To the suction port, or low pressure side of the system. If you do not know what one that is, you might want to get some help. You need to have the proper amount of freon in the system or there could be compressor damage.

On my 2001 malibu the a/c will not stay on.

Maybe it's low on Freon and the pressure switch in the system is turning it on and off. Add Freon if needed if it is low on pressure.

FACING THE CAR, WHERE IS THE EXACT LOCATION TO ADD FREON TO A 1997 CHEVY MALIBU. WE FOUND A RED CAP BUT UNDERSTAND THIS IS NOT WHERE YOU SHOULD ADD. HELP .....

The low pressure refrigerant port is near the firewall2.gif, just after the receiver/dryer. You'll need a gauge and preferably an ac test manifold. You can use the manifold to add refrigerant up to the point where the system maintains the pressure level in the green area. There should be a blue cap on the low pressure valve.
I believe your malibu take's 12 ounce's of R134, don't over charger the system. You'll blow O rings and worst kill the A/C compressor.
Good luck and hope this helps. Here is a link for A/C recharging. http://www.geocities.com/vantaray/air_conditioning.htm

A.c. not blowing cold

First off you 2006 vehicle contains no Freon R12. It contains R134 refrigerant. You have a leak or you would not need to add refrigerant. It is illegal to add refrigerant without repairing the leak. Take it to a trusted A/C specialist and have the leak repaired. They have the proper tools and expertise to add the correct amount and repair the leak.
