I have seen similar cases where the alternator is from a newer or different model and the 4 th wire doesn't apply, just connect it and see what happens

Where can the harness be purchased reasonably priced?

Best is a salvage yard.

If you havethe time and a voltage meter with Aligator clips,

I have removed wiring harnasses then

1. Disconnect battery

Wire brush male connections.

2. Trime a nail file to fit in female slots and clean with file

3. Connect Resistance meter (I prefer those that sound off when a connection is present) to both ends of wire,

follow each wire inspecting for cracks in insulations or worn areas, bend stretch and twist as you run the length of the wire. If the sound from the meter stops or needle moves. you found the bad wire or break in the wire.

I then replace the entire wire some just remove the bad area and splice wire together.

For splicing,

Cut and trim wire,

slide electrical shring wrap (one inch each side of splice length)on wire away from bare wire,

press wire together

If in car cover area around wire with aluminum foil

Flux the bare wires

solder with a conventional soldering iron and leaded solder

slide electrical shrink wrap over the bare wires,

heat to seal

It is only time and this process is easy when done on a junk yard harnass then when complete, install in the car.

I mark the wires with a paint pen when they check out ok.

Be systematic and careful and when don slide a cabel sheath over harnass

Battery drains down my altinator hooked up correctly??

Maybe not. You need to make sure your battery is good. The alternator may be bad as well. Make sure your battery terminals are cleaned and the wires are clean and have no damage. If your alternator was hooked up wrong, it would of never started when it was replaced. I hope this helps you.

My head lights and horn don't work, checked all fuses and relays found okay, checked wiring up to plug box in sidepanel all conections seem to be fine, checked harnass fromside panel to fusebox at engine,...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
As a first course of action, I strongly suggest that you remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. the reconnect it again. This will reset the system and can get your car back to it's normal operation.

Hope this helps and thank you for using Fixya! Have a good one!

I have a 2008 nissan Titan. I have the Delphi harnass hooked up but when I plug in the harnass to the trailer I have running lights only. No brakes or turn signals. Do I need to do something with the blue...

Check for the tow relays in the under hood fuse box. Black box behind the battery on the passenger side. Do a web search for 'titan tow relay' for more info.

Will start and run fo a short distance and cut off. I had the battery checked and charged and it tested ok. could it be the alternater?

Could be..... the batery is just used for starting, once the engine is running it pulls electric power from the altinator, if the altinator which also charges the batery, is not working power is pulled from the battery, and when the battery goes dead, the car does too. When the Car turns off, do you then need to jump it to start it? if so you could be pretty convinced that the altinator is the issue

Charging system problem

Possible problems: 1.  Used or rebuilt alternator is also bad. 2.  Improper installation.  Wires not reconnected to the alternator. 3.  Open wire on wire harness leading to the alternator. 4.  Improper belt adjustment.  The belt could be too loose.
If this is not helpful please provide more information and symptoms.  Answer questions like:  Does your car start? Can you jump start and drive the car long distances?  After jump starting the car, is the battery light still on?  Did you have someone check the new battery to ensure it is a good one?  Are you competent enough to do simple repairs such a battery and alternator replacement?  Answering some of these questions may result in a more helpful answer to your problem.
