Question about 2001 Hyundai Accent

2 Answers

Not sure if its the same as a 2001, but I have a 2002 Accent. My son was driving it and it sputtered to a stop. It turns over but doesnt fire. I am thinking its the fuel pump. Do you think its the fuel pump or something else? If its the fuel pump, is it difficult to replace? Thanks

Sounds like a fuel pump, maybe ignition coil, but more likely fuel pump.Check 1 or 2 plugs to see if you have spark since that's easy enough to at least verify.Pull the plug, plug the wire back on to the spark plug, hold the little plate of the spark end up against the engine block, and turn over real quick. If you don't see anything first time, try once or twice more.Try another plug.If they both have spark lol. That leaves fuel and air.Even with a serious air problem,it should start and is not likely to just quit.Fuel pump probably is difficult.I have a 1995 and it is under the back seat as a cap on top of the tank :( Pulling off the seat was easy. There is a lock ring on the cap/pump that was slightly rusty, enough so that I had to buy a used tank and a new pump.If you want more specific location of your fuel pump, call the dealer or a shop.Someone will usually give you free advice to attract future business.
Good luck! Greg

The fuel filter may need to be replaced. The parts are relatively cheap - labor may vary from 1/2 hour to an hour.

It buckle and sputters when in iddle or at light

Your air/fuel mixture is too rich so it's choking out the engine. Get your mechanic to adjust the carburetor.

1999 Hyndai Accent 1500 cc high cooling water temp.

over heating while stopped usually indicates that the radiator fan is not coming on ...when the engine is running hot you should be able to hear the fan running .. if it doesnt then suspect the thermal switch mounted on the radiator .. make sure the fan turns freely .. the fan is not needed when the car is moving so it wont heat up as long as you are driving .. but will do so when stopped if thats the trouble .. sometimes the thermal switch operates a relay that in turn operates the fan ..that could also cause the trouble ..

Problems when starts..

Turn your key on for 10 seconds but do not start the engine. That will give the fuel pump time to built pressure. After the 10 seconds try starting the engine. If it starts right away you may have a weak pump or dirty filter.
