TCar stopped dead .....timing belt broke on 2002dodge

Sorry for this bad news but if the timing belt broke or jumped then you will need to pull heads due to bent valves.
When the timing belt breaks it leaves valves open or throws the timing off which causes the pistons to come up and hit and bend valves,
the only way to know how much valve damage and to repair is to remove the cylinder head or heads and see.

I have a 2002 dodge stratus rt. did a comp. test on the front 3 cylinders and the first was 155 the second was 153 and the third was 30 yes 30 .is it the head gasket.

it definitely could be a head gasket. A cylinder leak down test will help confirm where the problem might be. If it leaks into the intake manifold or out of the exhaust pipe you may need to have a valve job done on the head. If it leaks into one cylinder 2 then look towards the head gasket. If it leaks into the oil pan you might have piston or ring damage. Other then that you won't know until the cylinder head is removed to do a visual inspection of all the parts.

My 2002 Dodge Stratus is not keeping compression. I was told that I will need a new engine. What are some reasons that would happen?

hi, it could be down to damaged piston rings, cracked block, cracked liners, but it could also be something simple like blown head gasket if i were you i would get second oppinion as engine replacement is last resort.

Need the tool to take the crankshaft off of a 2002 Dodge Stratus

I think you mean the harmonic balancer, which is the pulley mounted at the front of the crankshaft. (You need to remove the engine and all of the pistons to remove the crankshaft itself.) Check your local parts store for a harmonic balancer puller -- I got one from NAPA for about $75 that allowed me to pull the balancer without removing the radiator/condenser.
