Question about 2001 Dodge Stratus

Car turns over fine. getting fire and gas to the plugs, but still not starting.Daughter was driving it. She said that it just started losing power and slowing down, then died. I've checked the coil pack, by using a screwdriver in the end of the plugwire and got spark. Also saw that there is gas on the plugs when I remove them. but it still does not crank..anything else I can check? and how do I check it?

First i would make sure the fuel pressure is where it needs to be (35-50psi)at the fuel rail. If the rail is getting fuel but no real pressure is present the engine will not start. If it is low pressure first check the fuel filter, then suspect the fuel pump.
Slow loss of power/dieing usually indicate's a fuel issue.

Sound like it could be a timing belt, will need to do a compression test on the cylinder's, most auto parts rent this tool to check compression, remove spark plug and screw in compression tester, disconnect coil pack, crank engine four revolution, and write down reading, do to all cylinder's, if any very low or zero, bad timing belt.

The coil could be breaking down under normal operating temps, or the pick inside the distributor. Either that or you may have oxygen sensors that are going bad, do you have a check engine light come on when it acts up?

Check B+ voltage to the injectors ! Injectors may not be firing . Also check the CCRM constant control relay module . This module has relay's inside for the fuel pump , cooling fans , PCM power relay.

Check for spark at the sparkplug, to see if everything in the dist. is working right. And check the injector harness for something being pulled loose when the wires were jerked out.

I lose horse power when in drive

Check around the fuel rail and injectors for leakage--this is not a problem to ignore due to the fire hazard that exists. Watch for any sudden wetness appearing when the key is turned on--no need to start the engine. When you find and repair the leak, then take the car to Autozone or similar business to have a free scan run on the computer looking for the horsepower problem. Hope this helps!

More than likely you have unburned gas that cause the converter to glow red. This will happen if you have a missfire .Spark plug wires could cause this problem. But one or more of your cylinders is not firing properly :)

Possible dirty fuel filter. I'd start there first, as it's the cheapest route, and quite possibly replacing the filter will solve your problem.
