Question about 1987 Dodge Pickup 2WD

Just got an '87 dodge p/u, still running, but needs some 'tuning'. NO idea how it was maintained - should i get a radiator flush (reservoir was empty), oil change, fluids check, any suggestions? Thanks!!

Yes all the above, also air and fuel filter, tune up, check hoses and belt's, not bad idea to check brakes, and front end (steering), also check for oil leaks, and make sure engine don't over heat.

I have 1998 excavator 345bl engine 3176C AND IT GET OVER HEAT after 30 minute of work what can I do to stop the over heat


Not fully conversant with this engine but generally causes of overheating are the following;
not enough coolant in radiator
sticking thermostatic valve
blockage in cooling system

Make sure radiator and reservoir have enough coolant, if reservoir / radiator don't get hot when engine is running then there is a blockage or the thermostatic valve is faulty.

Flush the coolant system with appropriate additive, refill and try again (you can for this use plain water without antifreeze But if it works you MUST ADD anti freeze afterwards.

If flushing system does not work you will have to replace the valve. Unfortunately I have no idea where that will be on this engine , apart from it being near the top of the water cooling systemand directly before any hose going to radiator.

How to add antifreeze in 2004 dodge caravan


Both if so equipped (has a radiator cap). First top off radiator, then run to operating temp and add to reservoir until at the proper level. Test drive several miles, recheck reservoir.

Running hot


The temperature gauge will not work correctly if the cooling system is not filled correctly and has air in it. This will also cause your engine to overheat.

I use an inexpensive cooling system purging funnel made by a company named Lisle. It has adapters that fit onto the radiator neck and a funnel attaches so you can "overfill" the radiator to get the air out of the system. Fill it until the funnel stays about half full and run the engine until the cooling fans turn on and off at least twice. Then there is a plug with a "T" handle that you stick down into the funnel neck to plug it. Then you remove the funnel from the radiator and you can put it in the antifreeze bottle or the coolant reservoir on the car and pull the plug out to drain the excess antifreeze from the funnel.....Works VERY well...Neatest thing since pockets on T-shirts!Check the link below to see one. Have a 2000 chevy cavalier. new water pump, new t-stat, new head gasket , new coolant, still running hot


Two ideas.

1. Try a new radiator reservoir cap (trust me, it is very important in holding pressure which keeps the coolant from boiling out).

2. This one you will need an entire weekend to spend on this. You need to remove the thermostat and replace the thermostat housing. pull one of the radiator hoses and attach a garden hose with good pressure. It needs to flush for at least 20 minutes. Then switch directions and flush water where was coming out. Then put it back together and drive until it gets hot. Allow it to cool for 45mins (to prevent engine from cracking due to rapid cooling) and repeat until no crud comes out when flushing.

I am flushing my radiator today, and need to know how much anti freeze my car should need. it is a 2003 Dodge neon SE.


It will need as much as it takes, which is impossible to tell depending on how you flushed it.
But your whole system takes more than 2 gallons, and since you want a 50/50 mix you know you will need more than one gallon of antifreeze. So you need to start by purchasing 2 gallons. If you have left over, it does not go bad. And if you do not quite have enough, you can probably add a little extra water because you probably did not flush all the antifreeze out.
Once you run it, then next time it will need more again after the heat bleeds the air out.

Needing to know how to flush a radiator on a 99 grand am gt v6 that has a reservoir?


remove the drain plug on the drivers side of the radiator use a bucket to catch the fluid start the car for about 1 minute then fill the reservoir so the fluid can clean th engine and radiator then close the drain plug on radiator and start the car let it run for 1 minute then tur it off remove the drain plug and close it refill the radiator an reservoir to proper level

When running the ac it overheats


flushing the radiator might not be enough to remove the water scales inside the small cavities...have it opened and cleaned thoroughly. In the location where I live they remove the top and the bottom part of the radiator and put a flat wire in and out into each of the flat tubes to dislodge the accumulated scales and dirt out. hope this helps

if u didn't run the engine no, just use a hose and flush tank, if u did run the engine just drain and refill the radiator with 50/50 solution of long life antifreeze, also flush the coolant reservoir with a hose as well..

Where is the drain valve on 2002 dodge caravan radiator?


its a pitcock facing the cab bottom of the radiator, plastic flat. once you find the pitcock just put a bucket underneath and turn it.then refill. if you want to flush(run fluid thru to clean it out) the radiator id suggest taking it in. you dont have to flush it every time you change the coolant out.
