I have a 2002 Chevy Malibu. I noticed my RPM will only go a little higher than 2,000. What could be the problem. When I'm driving around and ready to drive away (once the light turns green) the car starts to **** for a while then it's fine. (RPM goes a little over 2000 then back down)

the "O/D OFF" indicator light let's you know that your car is not in over drive. if you are just driving around town at relatively low speeds you probably wont notice a difference whether the button is on or off.but the next time you are driving on the freeway(55+mph) and want a little extra speed(overtaking another vehicle),click that button to the off position and you should hear the car shift into a lower gear which will instantly give your car more torque at a higher rpm to help you complete your pass ie- your cars"passing gear"
Sounds like the clutch, if a standard trans, needs to the be replaced. If it's an automatic, you need to take it in for diagnosis. Your trans. might be going bad, slipping, may just be low on fluid, if it is use some Lucas trans nonslpi and the proper tranny fluid to fill it to the proper level. Add the fluids and test drive bfore going to the shop, unless the tranny is fuul allready.
This could the problem with misaligned wheel ,please get the wheel alignment done and check for any extra wear the type on the any one side which cause this problem....
Hi, Did you notice the motor actually reving higher when the tachometer was reading a higher rpm.. If it was it could be your transmission slipping.. Set your cruise control and listen to your motor while the tachometer starts moving erratically.. Good Luck
