I have a 2004 Mazda 3. The car started revving on its own even while driving. Now the engine light and AT light is on. What does this mean?

This is not an uncommon problem on the Mazda 3 autos of various years and it is an automatic transmission related problem even though the check engine light comes on when the AT light displays.. The AT light is a warning that there is an issue with the auto transmission.

You will probably also find the auto transmission is not changing as it should or not going onto particular gears and the increases in engine RPM when driving is caused by a problem with the transmission.

The cause is primarily neglected maintenance of the transmission by owners .

If you stop the car and restart it you might find the warnings go away and the car starts behaving normally for a very short time. The problems will definitely come back and both warnings lights will come back and the auto trans will start playing up again.

If you do not address the problem the computer system could send the vehicle into limp mode or stop it altogether as a preventative measure to save the transmission from damage. You need to take the car to Mazda service and have them check it over with their diagnostic equipment. They have seen all this before with the transmissions in other Mazda 3s/. For this issue I would strongly recommend you don't take the car to some independent unless the business is a very competent specialist in Mazda vehicles.

Changed battery in rain have lights engine turns over but no fire

The rx8 has the rotary ankles engine in it, these have porcelain tipped rotors instead of pistols and are prone to wear resulting in them not starting. The car should start with a bump or toe start. This will require an engine strip down and rebuild and should only be carried out by a qualified mechanic. (Mazda recommend rotors be replaced every 25000 miles)

Let me know if this helps

My car turns over good, acts like it might turn on then continues to turn. I figure it might be fuel filter since low fuel light had come on.Or could it be th fuel pump got hot and is not working properly?

common problem is turning car off with engine not reaching normal operating temp and floods engine. try this. DE-CHOKING PROCEDURE WHEN ENGINE CRANKS BUT DOES NOT START
If the engine does not start, try the following procedure to start the engine using the de-choke mode.
Failure to do so may aggravate the no start condition.
1. Depress and hold the accelerator pedal to the floor and crank the engine for 7-8 seconds. (This will clean out any unburned fuel from the combustion chamber)
2. Release the ignition key to stop cranking.
3. Release the accelerator pedal and start the engine. If the engine starts while performing Step 1 the engine will rev up. Immediately release the ignition key to stop cranking and remove your foot from the accelerator pedal.
^ Do not keep holding the ignition switch in the START position over 10 seconds if the engine does not start. This may result in a weakened or dead battery.
^ Avoid racing the engine or sudden take off right after starting the engine.
^ If the engine still fails to start following the De-choking procedure, have your vehicle inspected by your Mazda Dealer.

for your info there is a recall for this problem. contact mazda.

Car just clicks when trying to start. All gauges

Battery. Does the car start. Usually when the gauges max out the battery has a dead cell. Try taking the battery cables off and cleaning the post/cables, then re-install the cables. Even the little acid can cause a battery to malfunction, also one of the terminals may not have a great connection. Clean those and see if it helps.

2004 mazda wont start, blew a front tire and had to be put on rollback. Sat all nite, and now wont start. will crank and can smell fuel.

flooded engine common problem remove all plugs and fuel pump fuse. get fuel out of engine do not istall fuel pump fuse re install all plugs I suggest a good charger be used as system can kill batt very quick run to wires from fuel pump fuse into seating area start cranking the engine over wires not touching once compression sounds alright touch wires to geather (may have to repeat these deflooding wire touching procedure many times) once started do not turn off car till normal operating temp . Once hot turn car off remove wires and re install fuel pump fuse .With RX-8 u cannot just start and stop car right away as in washing car as it can produce this same condition ALWAYS let car warm up before turning off.
