Internal trans problem but they usually don't get worse. Your just goin to have to hold it until your done backing up. or pay for rebuild or replace. Sorry

How do i repair code po709 on 325i bmw

The culprit is likely a defective "park/neutral" switch inside the shifter mechanism. It is not an uncommon problem. If you are clever you may be able to repair it yourself. One common solution is to replace the entire shift mechanism (~$500 new) or with a used one from a scrap yard.

2006 bmw 325i won't start shows steering wheel with lock on it on display. slow to start yesterday. lights, radio work. tried charging battery without any luck

f this is a floor shifter or center console shifter there is actually a lock release next to the shifter. Look next to the shifter handle and you should see a small square plug in the console remove the plug and you will see a little white button in it this is the shifter release push it and you can move the shifter.

Sometimes the R gear in my gear box dosen t work in my bmw ci 323 model 2000

hi. is this a manul shift trans?? if yes, then it is an easy fix. really it is. remove shifter knob and boot to gain access to the shifter assembly, you should be looking at the top of the transmission, remove 3 to 4 bolts holding the shifter in. slowly lift the shifter out of the trans, there should be a plastic "bushing" between the shfter and the shifting rod, its probably destoryed thats why reverse is hard to get, it adds more "throw" moving the shift rod of the trans more forward and firmly into gear.

My 94 bmw 325I transmission is slipping and not shifting properly. How can I check the fluid level and add fluid if needed? Thanks Vince M

on the drivers side of the transmission under the car is a plug similar to a rear end in the older rear wheel drive cars bmw has
a lifetime tranny fluid setup so take out the plug and fluid should drip out its right behind the shifter cable if it dosent drip out youll need a pump to put it in you can get these at advance auto

This is a 1987 325i convertible, with a manual 5 speed. The problem is, that it pops out of first gear, when starting at a dead stop. It will stay in gear, if it is moving at all. So you can start in...

Generally when you have a problem with your car 'popping' out of a gear, it the shifter linkage. Shift linkage has a lot to do with the transmission. I recommend going to a shop you trust and asking them to check the shift linkage and adjust if needed. If that doesn't fix it, its your tranny and that will be expensive.

Clucth not disengauging....

try this.you have 2 shifter cables.one is select cable the other is shift cable.first put the transmission selector lever in neutral.then move transmission shift lever to 4th gear.depress clutch to if necessary to shift.move the shift lever to the 4th gear position until contacts stop.then you turn the adjuster turn buckle so the shift cable eye aligns with the eye in the gear shift lever.when installing the cable eye. make sure the flange side of plastic bushing at the shift cable end is on the cotter pin side.the cables should be adjusted so the clearance between the shift lever and both stoppers are equal when the shift lever is moved to 3rd and 4th gear. move the shift lever to each position and check that the shifting is smooth.

95 mazda protege stuck in drive, wont shift gears, shifter moves but can't go in reverse, need help please

Check the shift cable that goes between the shifter and the transmission. If it's damaged internally it will not move properly and the condition you stated will be a symptom. Easiest way to check it is to disconnect the transmission end of cable and see if it moves freely. If not, replace it.
