Question about Buick Regal

1 Answer

I have a 1992 buick regal the signal lights don't work all the time, noticed smoke ever now and then coming out of the steering column. Battery voltage on the dash will show low sometimes and other times not. Got the alternator and battery tested and all was good. Is my problem most like a wire shorting out and would it be most likely on the ignition or turn signal itself?

The wiring loom that runs up th steering column to the combination switch appears to have chafed wires which seem to be intermittently shorting out. If you can remove the plastic covers around the column you wil probably be able to see where the problem is. An auto parts dismantler/wrecker might have a replacement switch and wiring assembly which will be a lot cheaper than a new one from a dealer.

Where is the flasher fuse located at

On 1992 Buick Regal 3.1L MFI OHV 6cyl. the Flasher is located:
- Hazard flasher: front seating area, passenger side, under dash, above kick panel, mounted in relay block
- Turn signal: front seating area, driver side, under dash, passenger side of steering column, mounted behind instrument panel

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

I have a 2002 buick regal gs. Ive been having problems with the turn signal wiring under the dash. for a while it seemed like it was shorting out and id have to move the wires with my feet while i was...

best thing to do. replace your turn signal switch before you short out the switch in the steering column. that means, hurry up,disconnect battery before you watch your car burns to ground. and it can short out while a simple drive to store or a country ride. the switch is about 30.00 new the labor in my side of the world 75.00 you can replace the whole steering column for parts75.00 and labor 75.00 i suggest that you shop around for prices and in meantime watch vigilantlly for smoke coming from steering column. if you see smoke pop hood, remove positive cable from battery quickly, and as a precaution, keep fire extuingesher at hand always. not trying to scare you but this is a serious problem that can cause you alot of un-needed trouble. be happy to help with phone support, or an expert on fixya may have an alternative solution! please repost for another solution, please, thank you for choosing fixya.com

Just put a new steering column in 92 buick regal to fix wiring problems for turn signals and brake lights but now my spedometer is in kph instead of mph!! how do I change it back??

Hi!!
Check on the instrument cluster for a switch labeled English/Metric, pressing that switch will change the display back to miles.
Good Day!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

1998 Buick Regal Electrical Failure

My 1999 Buick Regal GS was doing the exact same thing. Replaced the ignition switch on the steering column and everything worked fine. You can buy one online for around $85. Installation took me a couple of hours.

1992 Buick Regal turn signals not flashing (stay on)

Check and make sure the flasher you changed is for the turn signals and not the hazzards. If all is okay there test the turn signal switch itself and the hazzard switch. You want to check the hazzard for it overrides the turn signal switch. To check see if you get current to the flasher. If not go to switches. If you do you have a wiring problem. Make sure you are checking things with a test light.

Did you check the glove box for fuses? There is a switch in the steering column too that could be the issue.

HAVE A 1995 BUICK REGAL WITH NO BRAKE LIGHT EVERYTHING WORK BUT NO BRAKE LIGHTS LIGHTSBULBS FUSES CHECK GOOD. HELP THANKS TOM

I had this same problem. I replaced the turn signal switch in the steering column and it worked great. To test for this, check your lights while wiggling your hazard light button and/or signal lever. When I pulled my hazard button forward, all my lights would come on.
