Question about 2001 Toyota Highlander

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Highlander. When I turn the car on (goes on no problem) the Battery check light is on. Is my battery dead? Can I still drive the car? OR do I need to take it in immediately?

Could be low peak voltage from the battery or possibly an alternator issue. Have your battery voltage tested (above 12 but13-14volts better)and your alternator bench tested.
Obviously your battery is not dead. i would solve the problem before driving very far. It could leave you stranded. Take it in as soon as possible

sounds like there might a draw somewhere or else a bad alternator...and when you're driving, its not charging up your battery and you drive off the battery...when you turn you radio and accessories on, then it has no output...perhaps check for draw first, then check alternator.

Have patience and light will go off. Or you can go to advance auto to clear it for you. Or you can disconnect the battery for 10 seconds. Your choice.

Check the bulb under the engine hood. Sometimes the tilt switch goes band and the light stay's on from time to time since it's exposed to the out side. Hope that would help you.
