I would like to suggest that when you start the car please cut off all load points spcially the airconditiioner as it will drain down more the battery and will result in providing low power to the starting circuits and specially to the circuits which can malfunction or reset.
Please switch off and try as the cranking speed will also increase and your vehicle should start.
However if not please start by checking from the fuel, fuel filter, fuel pressure and spark. The car must start for sure.
Hope this advice helps. Good day

When I turn the key, the lights go on, windows work, sunroof works... but when I turn it to the start position, nothing happened. If I jump it at the started with the key on, it runs OK.

Try another battery. Sometimes a battery might have enough amp to turn the lights on, open and close the windows, and even beep the horn. Sometimes it might even display that it have the right amp, but in reality the battery is damage giving you the wrong information.
Test with another battery, you could borrow one from a friend. Being there, done that.

My 97 audi a6 wont start or jump start.

It sounds like you have a couple of problems going on. First if your car wont start it could be the starter but if there is no noise you may have an ignition problem. Ignition problems usually occur in the steering wheel column. Try tilting your stearing wheel up and down a couple of times. If that does not work it might be your starter if it is you can get under your car and arc it. Or it could be your altenator but the only way to test that is if you take it off and take it to napa or something . I hope it is your altenator because it is usually a quick and cheep fix. good luck.

My 2000 Ford Explorer makes a clicking sound (not a turning over sound) when I try to start it. THe lights, radio, and air conditioner seem to work fine. Once the car is jumped...which happens easily, it...

Check your battery voltage when the car is not running. Check voltage again as someone else holds the key to START. Check voltage again after you've jump started it. First reading sould be about 12.5 to 13 volts. Second reading should be greater than 10 volts, and last reading should be 13.5 to 14.6 volts. If first two readings are low, your battery is not charged, or won't hold a charge (defective). if the 'while running' test is less than prescribed, then your alternator is not putting out enough voltage to charge your battery and should be replaced.

My car would not start so I jumped it then I turned the air conditioner on and it stalled

WELL SOUND LIKE BATTERY PROBLEMS.HAVE CAR JUMPED START AGAIN. DONT TURN ON AC OR ANY ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS LET ALTERNATOR CHARGE UP BATTERY.WITH CAR RUNNING BATTERY VOLTAGE SHOULD BE 13.5 - 14.5 VOLTS. IF YES YOUR BATTERY IS DEFECTIVE.MOST OF THE TIME WHEN VECHICLE NEED JUMP START THE BATTERY HAS WEAK CELLS OR MAKE SURE BATTERY CABLES CLEAN AND TIGHT.IF BATTERY VOLTAGE IS NOT 13.5 - 14.5 VOLTS WITH ENGINE RUNNING.ALTERNATOR NOT CHARGING.CHECK ALTERNATOR FUSE + WIRES MAKE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT NOT DAMAGE.CHECK ALTERNATOR DRIVE BELT MAKE SURE ITS NOT LOOSE.DUE TO LOCK OUT FEATURES TURN OFF RADIO BEFORE REMOVING NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE.

2000 ford escort want start. checked fuses and battery . try to turn over but want what can i check. it was running went in house and came back out would not start

Hi

Get a jump start, with good set of leads.

If no joy , follow the Positive lead from the battery to the starter motor, and give it a tap with a small hammer or big spanner, while someone turns the ignition key.

Good Luck !

Remember to give me a FixYa rating....Thanks...John.

Excellent reply Lucifer,

I thought for sure we were looking at a problem with the ignition switch. Since it works with a jump, that's out.

Now battery and its connections will be the focus.

Check the terminal clamps and cables. Remove and give them a good going over with a wire brush. Check both ends on the cables.

When you jumped it, where did you attach the clamps? Battery on both? Black to the engine?

If you can get to a battery dealer, have them do a LOAD CHECK'. Some batteries can posses what is called a 'surface charge'. They have the volts, but not the amps. This will tell you.

We're getting close. The really good news is that it worked with the jump start. Your starting system is functioning. The most this will cost you is a battery.

Again, get back to me with the results.

Remember: Good things come to those who rate.
