You are talking about a universal joint squeal, get them replaced grease may solve the squeaking but once they make noise they will be worn, and its not that expensive

97 Chevy S10 rear end squeek that goes away when brakes are applied

If you have rear disc brakes, one of the rotors could be warped and causing the pads to move in the caliper.
You should be able to remove one wheel at a time, lock down the rotor with the lug nuts, and put the trans in low gear or reverse to listen for the noise.

My 2001 Nissan Altima has a squeeking sound coming from the drivers side wheel. It only squeeks when the car is moving. And I don't think it squeeks when I use the brakes. What could be causing it to...

You will need to pull the wheel off and inspect the brakes. Spray some brake fluid cleaner on the rotor and disc area to clean the brake dust off. Next, have the wheel bearing checked and replaced, a bad wheel bearing would cause your wheel to squeak.

Replacing output speed sensor on 2002 sonata

Agreed, your sensore is telling you somethings wrong with the trany. replace the sensor last. from what you describe you have a worn out fritchion cltuch plate. check your trany fluid for shiny particles in the oil or paper like material. this is telling you your tranys clutch plates are going and going fast.

and to find the sensor it will be on the out put shaft part of the trany. it will be on the out side with 2 wires going to it. (this is a hall effect type sensor) it will have a retainer holeing it into place.(possibly an 8 mm bolt) sohuld be the same front and rear wheel drive. front wheel drive is harder to find but look at the axle shalfts and where they conect to the trany. this is the ddifferential. it should be close to this location if not look closer to the main body of the trany. along the back side closest to the fire wall.

Rear wheel bearings don't squeak, what could have happened is the brake shoe retaining clip hardware may have broke. Common to break due to corrosion if they have never been replaced. I always buy the brake shoe spring retaining kit every second break job since there only $15.00 at Auto Zone.
The other thing to that the squeak could be coming from is the U joints at the drive shaft. The U joints may have gone dry of grease and needs to be replaced, You have two of them and the drive shaft needs to be removed to change the U joints so might as well have both of them changed.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Ford ranger trany

Yes you can adjust the bands, but not for 1st gear. Of the two bolts you see, the front one is for 4th gear and the rear one is for 2nd. Is first gear the only problem you have? Does 1st gear work fine if you use manual 1st?
