1992 Ford Ranger Logo

I have a '92 Ford Ranger that is leaking (what appears to be) water. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the A/C housing (covered by a foil-like material). I haven't turned on the A/C in over 6 years. Any suggestions?

That is very strange.Have you put your finger in the water and smelled it?And is it clear? It could be freon leaking from the reservoir is all I can think of,as long as it doesn't look like radiator fluid, which sounds like you already determined that.

    icantry,
It's clear, no smell...it has a bit of a "slippery" feel to it, but evaporates very quickly as though it's only water leaving behind no visable residue. It seems to be coming from the bottom of the A/C unit (the silver, foil-like wrapping at the bottom).

First, you can't see or feel freon, it's a gas, I would check the heater core, that is the only thing with water that runs into the fire wall and your a/c/heater housing.

If it's evaporating practically before your eyes,I'd say it's freon leaking. The only way water would evaporate that fast is on a 150 degree rock in the desert. You're not in the desert right?I'm not sure about the slippery feel.I'd say freon. This other person didn't seem to read your post too well.Yes it is normal for an a/c to leak water WHEN IT'S BEING USED,but you said not in 6 years.I would say also, check your radiator overflow(did they have them in 1992?don't remember lol) periodically to make sure you aren't losing any of that.I never really felt freon, and since it's slippery,I do know radiator fluid is slippery, just unsure about freon.Good luck! The resorvoir is empty.

It is still okay to drive for now.Open your radiator cap when the engine is cold and see if you can see any antifreeze showing. For now add some water to the reservoir. If there is space in the radiator, top that off too with water. It isn't necessary to have 100% antifreeze all the time, but for now it needs full fluid to avoid overheat if there is a leak.If it is a slow leak,it will slowly absorb it out from the overfill. If it is about 10-15 miles or like a half hour drive to work, check the reservoir either when you get to work or before you leave.I would also carry at least a gallon of water in the trunk for now if you already don't.I always do because you never know.i also keep a quart of oil and some steering fluid all in a rubbermaid.Jumper cables.Half a bottle of antifreeze too.Anyhow,if you do find out after a day a week or whatever that there is a loss of fluid,it should be checked out depending how much or how little. My radiator has had a pinhole leak for about 8 years and about once a month or every other month the add coolant light comes on and it takes about a 12 oz. glass of water and it's all good for another month or two.I wouldn't think antifreeze would evaporate very fast because it does endure high heat without evaporating so I still do not think it is radiator fluid but time will tell.Another thing to watch is your temperature guage. It may occassionally go past mid-range on the temp. scale, that's okay.If it ever gets up near the red,or goes up fast, pull over and shut down.Let me know what you see when you check it. Good luck! Greg

87 ford ranger coolant leak not from water pump replaced it today appears to be coming from right behind it

I can give you a couple of possible causes(1)freeze plugs in the block, there round & look like drink coasters, but are brass(2)intake manifold gasket can be leaking from the corners where water jackets are/also the head gasket both are on all four corners,I don't know what motor you have, but there are pipes that are called crossovers that run from the back off the timing cover to the heater core on the fire wall, sometimes on top of the manifold on one side & there will be a hose connected to it possible bad hose or corroded tube?

1987 Ford Ranger: Determining cause of oil leak into and then from air filter pan

It is possible that too much oil is in the engine, check dip dtick to make sure oil is at correct level. Other possibilites include some sort of blockage inside the engine, this is likely to be shown if an oil presure gauge is fitted and reading high. Sorry can't be more helpful.

92 Ford Ranger, the tail lights will not come on, the brake and turn signals work. All fuses appear to be ok, I replaced the connectors and bulbs. what would be my next step

You will need to scan the wires. Check closely around the bulb sockets. You might be able to see the damage visually, a burnt wire or a melted wire. You will need to test the wires with a volt reader. If it is not in that area, just start checking the wires of the harness. Also, make sure to look around the fuse housing also. Around the bulb sockets and fuse housing, check them first. If you have a question Marshall, just let me know. I will help you as much as I can. Thanks for choosing Fixya.

Leak from 2001 Ford ranger Water Intake Manifold - There is an aluminum part coming out of the manifold on top of the engine that is leaking. It is not on the rubber hose but on the metal part that...

The piece you are describing sounds like the thermostat housing. These housings are normally bolted to the manifold, so you can simply unbolt it. If it is cracked, you will need to replace it. If it is not, you can replace the gasket underneath it and reinstall it.

Leaking coolant

that would ba a big negative the only thing that runs inside that cover is oil now it could be either your water pump or thermostat housing if either one is near that cover the best thing to do is wash down the engine when its cold and once all clean run it and just sit and wait itll show up.. but to answer your question no.. no such thing as coolant in the timing cover
