Check Engine light came on today. Had it checked and I was told it was the battery cable. Got new battery cables put on and the problem is still there. I was also told that it might be the alternator and had that checked and that was not the problem. I really do need some help!

Check the belt tension on the jeep. If it has a serpentine belt the tensioner may be weak or broken causing the belt to slip. Sears used to have a starting-charging system check they did for free. Now I think it costs $20.00. Without being there it's hard to say exactly.

Check Charging System/told not the alternator

Check your battery connections - where the cables connect to the battery posts AND where the cables connect to the starter/main power feed and where the ground cable connects to the engine and/or frame. A poor or corroded connection can cause intermittent problems and poor charging performance.

I have a 1999 chevy tahoe and after my battery died I had a friend change it after getting a new one but now theres a light inside that is on that says change cables what does that mean?

  • There is no check cables light. This is a check engine light. You can try to remove the cables for two minutes and then reattach them and see if this works. More than likely it won't. You will have to go to your local major parts store like Auto Zone, Advanced Auto, NAPA etc and they can scan your PCM for free and pull the codes so they can be crossed and the reason for the code[s] diagnosed.

  • Hope this helps.

Get the battery recharged and have the alternator tested . Voltage at battery with the car running should be 13.5-14 volts. If the battery light came on with engine running that indicates a bad alternator .NEVER remove battery cables with engine running , tests nothing and could cause ecu failure.

Hi...Battery problem on your Dodge ..First check your cable on your battery see if they are not loose on the battery' post, then try to start if not.. recharge your battery for 8 hours , put a good temporary battery on your van then start your engine then unplug your positive cable on the positive battery post, see if the engine still running. if the engine stop your alternator fail to charge.. then you replace it.. look on any second hand garage for a good battery between $20 to $60 dollars for use one ...unless you prefer by new the it will be between $90 to $160 good luck

Try checking the altenator. If the starter and battery were gimpy, the altenator may have a blown regulator too!. It sounds like there is a short in the system causing this problem. Most likely the altenator or component in the charging loop. WF

I have put 5 starters on my car. They work good for 2 or 3 wks. then it's back to the click, click until it cranks.Any suggestions?

Sounds like your loosing power to the starter motor (big wire at starter), the small wire is good cause you hear it clicking, that's the solenoid, next time it clicks, need to check voltage at big wire on starter with test light, while some one holds key to start, if you loose voltage, check wire at both ends, battery and at starter.

Check engine 2003 mitsubishi

I had this issue and there wasn't anything wrong.. take off the battery cables for 5 minutes and then put them back on. If you put it back on and the check engine light doesn't return, it was probably just a sensor wanting you to replace something after a particular mileage. However if you does return, probably need to take it to a mechanic to get reading of the codes, or you can do this with a analog voltage meter.

Warning: unplugging your battery cables will most likely delete all your radio stations... lol

Check engine light

Disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds or more and it should reset.
Mine came on after I flushed the cooling system and put new antifreeze in it.
Reset after I replaced the battery. But there are other things that can cause the light to come on.
