My 2007 dodge with 5.9 diesel is showing engine malfunction light and error code of P1740, failed TCC or overdrive solenoid. The truck seems to run ok in overdrive but I don't understand what the TCC...

Code P1740-Torque converter clutch did not lock up when the PCM sent the command. Enabling conditions: No engine or transmissions codes are present, vehicle speed was under 70 MPH, TPS was under 33% open. When the PCM commanded the torque converter to lock, no change was detected in engine speed. Blocking action: This code can block the following monitors: none.

Testing: Check torque converter solenoid for proper operation.

NUMBER: 21-11-00
GROUP: Transmissions
EFFECTIVE DATE: October 02, 2000
SUBJECT: 46RE Transmission MIL Due To DTC P1740 - TCC or OD Solenoid Performance
OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves the replacement of the transmission pressure boost valve cover plate.
MODELS: 2000 - 2001 (AB) Ram Van 2000 - 2001 (AN) Dakota 2000 - 2001 (BR/BE) Ram Truck 2000 - 2001 (DN) Durango

NOTE: THIS BULLETIN APPLIES TO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 46RE TRANSMISSION BUILT BEFORE AUGUST 01, 2000 (MDH O8O1XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may complain of a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. Upon further analysis, it is determined that the MIL is caused by Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1740 - Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) or overdrive solenoid Performance. Other than the MIL, the customer may not notice any other condition with the transmission.

This condition may be caused by an intermittent and momentary TCC disengagement condition. The transmission valve body pressure boost valve cover plate has been revised with a larger size orifice hole to address this condition.

NOTE: THE DRB III(R) MUST BE OPERATING AT RELEASE LEVEL 50.4 MDS2 SYSTEM CIS CD2067 OR HIGHER (AVAILABLE THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 2, 2000) IN ORDER TO PERFORM THE REVISED TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH STALL TEST. DO NOT USE EARLIER VERSION STALL TEST TO DETERMINE CONDITION OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH.

Here can find the test in pdf format: 2009-11-28_034958_1124.pdf

Hope helps.

Got a p1740 code, idot light went off when... 2001 ram 1500 sport

There was a Technical Service Bullitin (TSB) out(TSB21-11-00) for this problem. It applied to 00-01 trucks with a 46RE built before 08/01/00 It had to do with replacing a pressure boost valve cover in the trans. That was after only performing some tests with the DRBIII first to rule out trany wear causing the fault.
TSB's are written for the dealerships by their respective manufacturers. They usually cover a problem that has occured enough times under warranty to warrant giving the dealership a heads up on the problem and how to fix it.

Here is a link to the TSB I posted:

I would think it is neither,
Your problem is the torque convertor clutch solenoid is not working,You need to have a shop check and replace the solenoid in the valve body of the transmission.

I have a 2000 Dodge Durango 5.9L with auto

has anybody checked to see if any wires were pinched in the bell housing. this is something that the people who installed the transmission should have addressed. the rebuilt trans. should have come with a new torque convertor. did it? youre heading in the right direction though.
