First of all...does it have push button 4x4? If so push the button that says auto or awd

The 4wd button on the inside might be no good

try selecting from nutreul or less then 3km

sounds like a bad encoder motor sensor.

i had the same issue change push button cluster

sometimes it helps to back the truck up a little ways, for some reason it helps lock it in.

while in drive, engage the 4wd, then shift into neutral for 2 or 3 seconds, then shift back into drive. it works for my '98 ram.

run a direct hot wire to axle concetion might get lost when moved if nothing take out your lockouts & re build or replace
