Removal & Installation - Fuel Filter

NOTE Disable the air suspension before raising the vehicle. The switch is located on the left side of the luggage compartment.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section.
  2. Turn the air suspension service switch OFF .
  3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  4. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  5. Disconnect the fuel lines.
  6. Loosen the filter retaining clamp and remove the fuel filter.

    Fig. Slide the special tool into the fitting to disengage it

To install:
  1. Install the fuel filter with the flow arrow facing the proper direction and tighten the filter retaining clamp.
  2. Push the fuel lines on to the filter fittings until an audible click is heard.
  3. Connect the negative battery cable.
  4. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks and proper operation.
  5. Turn the air suspension switch to the ON position.

On 1992-up vehicles, install the fuel filter with the flow arrow facing the proper direction and tighten the filter retaining clamp.

Lincoln continental cabin filter
I solved the problem by ordering the filter fro an online site that gave instructions:

instructions at this link are:
Turn on wipers until they are in an upright position then turn ignition off. Open the hood. The filter compartment is on the passenger side, directly beneath the windshield. Pull back weather strip and remove cowl. Slide the water shield toward the front of the vehicle then lift to remove. Replace filter and reassemble.

I have it out and am waiting for new filter.

How do i change the gas filter in my 93 lincoln continental
Hello;
Your Lincoln has the fuel injected engine. Jack up and support the vehicle. Relieve the pressure of the fuel line by removing the gas cap and also depress the schrader valve on the fuel rail. Be very carefull as to not spill gas on a hot surface. Make sure the vehicle is cooled down. The fuel filter is located in line on the frame rail. Most of the Lincolns have a threaded fitting and a push on fitting. Put a pan under the filter to catch the fuel. On the push on fittin, push in on the line and remove the clip. I use a pair of neddle nose pliers to remove them. Use wrenches on the other end, 5/8 and 3/4". There is a band clamp that needs to be removed and then the filter comes off. Reverse the procedure to install the new filter.

2002 lincoln continental when filling gas tank the pump constantly shuts off
This is usually caused by the vent tube on the fuel filler pipe being restricted in someway. If you look under the vehicle at the fuel filler pipe you will see a smaller pipe running down beside it.This is the vent.Make sure that it is not bent or stopped up.
