Transmission Temperature light only comes on when the transmission has reached the operating limits and tells the temp sender to send a warning. The OD light is the Over Drive light.
There may be several reasons causing the Trans. Temp light to come on. The first would be if the transmission is low on transmission fluid.
Place you vehicle on a level surface. You can check this by letting the vehicle warm up to normal operating temperature, then open the hood and remove the transmission dipstick and wipe it clean with a paper towel or shop rag. Then reinsert it and remove it again, holding it horizontal look at the end of the dipstick. You will see a level mark and a add mark. If it's on the add mark then you need to add transmission fluid. Do not add more then 8 ounces at a time, before rechecking the level.
If the fluid is full, smell the fluid on the dipstick, does it have a burnt smell?
If the fluid has a burnt smell or it's a dark brown color then you will need to change the transmission fluid and filter.
The Overdrive light is on due to high transmission temp or because the Overdrive button has been pushed. ( If equipped with a manual overdrive button)
When the transmission is hot it will turn the overdrive off to increase the speed and pressure of the transmission fluid to help cool the transmission.
So this problem will go hand in hand if you find a problem with the transmission fluid.
You can also take you vehicle to you local auto parts store and have them check the engine codes. There may be another problem causing this issue.

SOURCE: od/off trans temp light comes on. had fluid and

your trans cooler is restricted. most likely it is part of your radiator and if it is restricted you will either need to replace the radiator or install an aftermarket cooler. have your trans cooler flow checked and go from there

I have a 97 dodge dakota just put a motor in it and now after driving for about 5 min trans temp light comes on and od off light comes on .trans is full of new fluid and all connections are good

OD probably is commanded to go off whenever the trans temp is high. Was the radiator connection plugged when the cooling lines were removed? Check to ensure they are connected to the radiator and were not kinked when the engine was removed.

No Reverse and the fluid is dirty and smells funny.

Sounds like you blew out your reverse belt/gear in the transmission. Probably going to need a transmission rebuild/replacement.

Will make dodge trans temp light o d off

Run fault codes and look for a servo/sensor fault in the od section of the box. If the od band/clutch is slipping it will cause the oil to over heat. Have a pressure test done on the box to ensure proper operating pressure. Check for correct oil level in the gear box.

02 Jeep Grand Cherokee jumps out of overdrive while driving on highway.

The torque converter is where OD takes place. Look at your transmission fluid cooler to see if it's blocked. The TCM module controls the OD functions so it may not be sending the correct signals.

Wheres the overdrive unit and how do i test it?

I'm guessing automatic trans. look at the end of the shifter handle there should be a button on the end . if you press it a yellow light should come on saying OD OFF . and the engine rpm should increase when driving, meaning the trans came out of OD. press it again and trans will go back into OD and light goes out.
hope this helps.

OD light is continously on

You may want to pull codes to see what code comes out of computer, sounds like you may have a temp. sensor inside trans. causing this but you will need to get codes.
