Engine revs up down while in idle

If its been without the line for over a year, I Highly doubt it. Look into IAC valve. Most are installed with 2 screws, easy to adjust. Idle Air Control Valve. Look that up, for a start.

Car accelerates itself

If it is an auto then it is possible it is idling to high and the trans is still engaged despite you foot being off the peddle. Try lowering the idol speed as a first resort.

1963 vw newly rebuilt engine, starts then dies at RPM acceleration

Could be one or both of two things.

1. The accelerator pump in the carb is clogged, the linkage is unhooked, or the diaphram in the pump is bad. It's cheap to replace and comes in the carb rebuild kit. This usually just causes hesitation when you step on the gas pedal. It doesn't usually cause the engine to stop running.

2. More likely is that the main jet in the carb is clogged. At idle, high vacuum under the closed throttle plate in the carb causes fuel to flow thru the idle jet. As the throttle plate opens (as you step on the pedal), the vacuum under the plate dissipates, stopping the flow of fuel thru the idle jet, and the vacuum ABOVE the throttle plate increases, which is supposed to then draw fuel from the carb bowl thru the main jet in the carb. If the main jet is clogged with dirt, then it can idle just fine and die as soon as you step on the pedal.

It has started to accelerate.up to 35 mph without any pressure on accelerator and revs up to 3 rpm's when idling. could this be a stuck gas pedal? will some WD40 do the trick

the idle control motor could be opening up causing the rpm to increase(acting like a vacume leak),by either sticking or the(ecm)computer, is commanding an increase in rpm.a bad throttle position sensor ribbon could be the problem(must be replaced no repair).if it was a sticking gas pedal then at idle when you move the gas pedal the rpm`s should increase alot.its possible that a vacume leak could cause this like a hose, although this should show up at idle with a high idle.

Surging and high idle on 94 silverado

If your idle is going from 500rpms to 1000rpm's fluctuating at and idle your EGR valve is probably carbon up and needs cleaned or replace.

Won't idle

You possibly have a clogged fuel filter, a vaccum leak would cause your engine to idle high, and the oxygen sensor would set off the check engine light, but it may be worth replacing the oxy sensor given that the car is 16 years old. Try replacing the fuel filter first and see if that helps.
