I have an 86 audi c4s and it is have a spark problem... the car an just fine and after wiggling a few wires the car died and has yet to start back up... i have found that the coil has power on one side but no ground on the other... should i run a ground to the negative side of the coil?

It sounds more like a fuel problem to me then a bad coil or spark ign the spark should be blue but its hard to see in daylight
You say you rebuilt the carb are you sure your main mixture jets are at least 2 to 3 turns out off the stops .
Try pouring fuel down the barrel fill the float bowl if it runs then dies its fuel don't let it catch unfire you should have 45 sec. of run time then adjust the the mixture screws 2 turns is base but when its is running good turn them in 1 at a time and give it 30 sec. to adjust until it starts to stumble then back it out a 1/4 two 1/2 turn then repeat on bank 2

Nicole 3 things keep a motor from starting.1. NO SPARK, 2. NO FUEL,. 3 ENGINE DAMAGE. Check to see if it has spark..
if it has spark its probably loss of fuel.. can be a clogged fuel filter or a inoperative fuel pump..

there are like 10 harness, name one.

the harness is cut, or broken or burned or grounding out (insulation damaged)
or the connector at end is corroded or damaged.
easy huh? use close visual inspections there.

when engine dies, check spark.

Have you checked cam timing?If it has jumped a tooth or two it will not start.

Bad fuel pump.
If so,have to remove the fuel tank,to replace pump

could be, when the car dies out check for spark, remove a spark plugwire put it near mteal spin engine over and see if youhave spark ,start there first. good luck.

Hi, I had the same problem. it is the imoboliser, it reads a code in your key while starting. you need to get the code in the key reprogramed. if that wont work you will need to get a new ignition barrel. Audi dealer will reprogram your key.

I have the same problem with my 86 GL 4WD. One day it started to turn, and then lost all power. I couldn't even turn on the lights. I have played with the ignition switch wires, and gotten it to fire. I think there may be a short somewhere in the switch or the wires to the harness, but I have not isolated it yet. You might check your ignition switch and wiring...

I think your problem might be your fuel relay which is situated next to the fuse box in the engine compartment.
