How do you get the gas tank out of a 1998 g20 van Van would not start, put new starter on it, but when it was cranked it sputtered and died. I thought it could be bad gas because it has not been moved in a year. I got some new gas in a gas can and had someone pour that gas into the carborator and it cranked and stayed cranked until he stopped pouring the new gas into it. The fuel pump works and the gas smells funny.

The fuel pump in the tank is probably going bad. You should have it checked or changed.

Did you bay a new one ?

check egr valve for carbon and proper function --also check cat converter possible clogging

I have a 1991 Chevrolet G20 van that needs work. Gas smell when driving, AC doesn't work and steering wheel is sideways. We live in Georgia and no help!!

I would change all the fluids and either try dry gas or i would recommend that the gas tank be thoroughly drained and new gas put in the tank.If you have a hard time getting started try to use starter fluid in carburetor or if you have none just use gas. If the vehicle is equipped with fuel injectors locate air filter and follow air duct to engine that is where starter fluid or gasoline will have to be pored to prime the injectors.if it don't start the engine should be tuned up with a major tune up replace all filters ect even if it starts without tune up i would tune it up asap!

Check on frame rail on drivers side, near front of gas tank.

Fuel pump is damaged, just replace the fuel pump located in the gas tank with a new one

The float inside the tank needs to be replaced. or one of the wires has a small short in it.

IF your problem is water in the gas tank you'll need to buy some gas line anti-freeze, add some gas and get the car into a warm garage to thaw the water in the fuel. The gas line anti-freeze will break up the water and allow the vehicle to start but don't be surprised if it sputters a lot a first and less later. Tip:make sure you buy the right stuff for fuel injected system.
