2002 Cadillac Deville Logo

Have an 02 Cadillac Deville with 32k miles on it. Had a Cadillac dealer flush coolant and replace, and now every time I start the car the DIC reads "Check Coolant Level". Coolant level is fine. Now the dealer wants $300.00 to replace the tank. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chuck

Why replace the radiator it's just a bad sensor. Get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle look up the water level sensor testing and replacement steps. The sensor probably cost around $30 and I doubt if it takes more than 30 minutes to replace.

That doesn't make any sense. By surge tank I assume he is referring to the over flow tank that is connected to the radiator by a small line from the radiator cap area. 1. You can buy that tank at auto zone and I can say I'm pretty sure it only runs about $40 and does not come with that sensor installed. You have to buy the sensor separately and install it on all the models I've seen with that installed. I would get the Haynes repair manual on your vehicle and research this tank and the sensor. Certainly I would not pay that mechanic to do the job. Replacing that tank only takes 20 minutes at best if we are talking about the same tank. The Haynes manual will clarify this and save you $1000's of dollars in the future.

I just purchased the tank from Auto Zone. The sensor comes with the tank you can't buy them separately, it cost $114.95.

2000 cadillac deville is overheating, replaced thermostat: water pump radiator had head gaskets fixed it's saying check coolant level and it spews coolant from the overflow tank cap when hot thoughts?

Two cooling fans controlled by three relay's . If only one fan is working ,that could be a problem .
Coolant Level Sensor Description
The coolant level sensor monitors the coolant level in the cooling system and indicates if the coolant is low. This sensor is located at the base of the radiator surge tank and is not serviceable.
CHECK COOLANT LEVEL (2)
The IPC receives a discrete input from the engine coolant level switch. The engine coolant level switch is normally closed. When the engine coolant is low, the engine coolant level switch opens. When the IPC receives an open signal from the engine coolant level switch, the IPC displays the message on the DIC.

Relay Driven Dual Cooling Fan Diagnostics There are using a pontiac , by your cadillac is the same .

Coolant level sensor

If the warmed up temperature is OK, probably not an airlock in the system. As for "check cooling level", this is shown when the integral level sensor in the reservoir tank is either not functioning or you have a bad electrical collection. This integral level sensor is not replaceable - you will need to replace the tank.

My cadillac deville(2001)runs smooth, but it runs hot.what is the problem?

Insufficient or weak coolant, bad thermostat (out of range), cooling fan not running or kicking into 2nd phase with A/C on, bad temperature sensor, bad temperature sending unit.(false guage reading).
Start by checking your coolant level and color (nice and green or orange? not rusty looking?) if rusty looking, flush coolant system and refill with recommended coolant type of 50/50 mixture.

Check specific gravity of coolant to see if the mixture is weak.

Verify cooling fan is kicking on after engine reaches operating temperature with engine idling.

Replace thermostat.

Measure resistance of temperature sensor. (should slowly raise as engine heats up)

Measure voltage at sending unit. (should slowly raise as engine heats up)

One of those should solve it, I always lean toward weak coolant and bad thermostat. I have seen bad water pumps do that too.

I have a Cdillac Deville 98 northstar. Getting an Error message - Engine overjeat, Change Engine oil, Check Coolant level and later I get Idle engine message I changed engine oil and coolant recently -1500...

Whatever you do, NEVER allow this engine to overheat and always use the correct antifreeze (DEX COOL) or you will damage your heads severly. The heads were made from aluminum so there is a very serious warping issue on the 1998 Cadillac Northstar engines. There should have been a recall but wasnt, ended up costing me 3 thousand USD to fix the engine problems I had but she now runs fine. I only had the car 4 months before this happened so someone prior to me owning evidentaly let it overheat on too many occassions and I had no choice but to fix cause I was still paying on the car!! Good luck

Recommended maintenence for 1999 cadillac such as throtle body, power steering, transmission, coolant, etc.

there is no maint required for the throttle body per say, just clean it if you develope a problem like stalling at idle, same goes for power steering, but a flush of the fluid every 30,000 miles is helpfull to extend life of pump and steering rack, the transmission needs to be given a fluid and filter change at least every 60,000 miles, the filters replaced for fuel and air every 30,000 miles and the spark plugs replaced at 100,000 miles.
