When i try to start my 99 vw passat gls v6 it will barely start and stay started for possibly 5 sec with no presure on gas pedal if i keep my foot on the gas it will stay running but the rpms wont rise...

it hard to say there few things that could cause this but sounds like it a Fuel issue
Possible bad fuel pump totallly clogged fuel filter bad injectors Out of gas etc.
first thing you need to do is check your fuel pressure ( I bet it be low ) if it low check fuel filter if fuel filter good replace fuel pump
If Fuel pressure is within Specs then test the injectors
if Fuel pressure is ok and injectors test out ok then check ignition system (spark plugs, coils, module etc)

Motor turns but will not start

You need fuel, air, and fire to start the car. Make sure you check the fuel components. Make sure they work. Fuel pump, filter, lines, injectors, pump fuse/relay. Fuel goes from the pump to the filter, from the filter through the gas lines and then to the engine. Make sure gas is getting through. If the gas checks out, make sure you are getting spark. It could be spark plugs/coils, wires, coil pack, distributor, dist.cap, rotor, cam sensor, crank sensor, ecm. You need to do a spark test. Check your timing belt/chain. Anyone of these can cause your car not to start. I know it is a lot. That is why it is important to check for gas and spark. Make sure you check all your wires, connections, and hoses. Make sure there is no intake leaks. If you have any questions, please let me know.

No gas going into the injectors or motor. i have spark and fuel pump is work vey good. pulled two spark plugs and smelled it and no scent of gas. thank you and God bless you

i didnt see any mention of fuel filter, maybe totally clogged, if pump is running and you can disconnect the line going from the filter to engine and have key turned on see if gas is coming through there.. maybe pump running but not pumping i have seen it before..

I ran out of gas in my 99 chevy tahoe. will not start after gas was pumped. changed fuel filter and additional ignition parts & sensors. More likely the fuel pump or fuel injectors?

If you add a few tablespoons of gas directly to the throttle body after removing the air filter, or use starting fluid (ether), then if the car starts and runs after cranking, then it is a bad fuel pump.

Check the fuel pressure of the fuel pump rail to verify if gas is coming through the system.

If not, it's definitely a fuel pump.

If it were an injector, then it would still try to start on some cylinders assuming it's getting spark.

The fact that the problem started after gas was pumped, points to a fuel pump, as well.

So, I would go for the fuel pump if the fuel pressure is 0 psi or near that, or if one discovers that there isn't any gas coming through the piping when cranking.

Also, check fuses for the fuel pump and injectors.

I removed the injector and fuel regulator assembly from the motor all in one piece, and left the electrical lines attatched in an attempt to see if the injectors were working. I attempted to start the van...

Yes, if everything is still connected properly, except that the injectors are no longer seated int he valve head, then you should see little spurts of gas coming from them when the engine turns over.

Be aware though, that it might not be your fuel injectors that are the problem. You need to finish checking the rest of the car before making that assumption.

Once you know the injectors aren't firing, you need to check the fuel filter and the fuel pump to make sure the gas is getting from the tank to the injectors.

You should have a fuel filter located on the passenger side of your car near the gas tank. Follow the gas lines under the car to find it. It is good to change it anyways, but you can check to see if gas is coming from the tank to the filter by removing the rear line

** BE CAREFUL, Gasoline is EXTREMELY irritating to the eyes and skin, and it WILL come out when you remove the line from the filter***

If it is coming from the tank to the filter you don't have to check your pump. Then replace the rear gas line, and remove the front gas line going to the engine and make sure the filter spits out gas while the engine turns over as well.

If there is no gas getting to the fuel filter, you will need to check your fuel pump, which should be located inside the gas tank. You can check it by getting under the car while you have a friend turn the key to the "on" position, but not starting the car. Do this 4 to 6 times to make sure you hear a little "Click, woosh" type sound that lets you know the pump is triggering.

If you have gas coming from the tank, through the filter and it is still not coming through the injectors, then you will need to rebuild your fuel injectors.

This is not hard to do, and consists mostly of changing the little gaskets in the injectors. But be aware that there are lots of small parts and the job cannot be rushed. Also be aware that lumina fuel injection systems are very sensitive. Make sure to disconnect your battery cables before removing the injectors from the system.

1996 jeep cherokee intermittin stalling

U have to check you injectors, if this is not the problem check your fuel filter it not getting gas and then check your gas lines, Get a compressor and blow the lines out, Look for rust and dirt.

If this don't work try checking you injectors again then check to see if your getting enough gas? Pump the gas peddle then go to the hood and see if you smell gas? if not? it your fuel pump orFuel Filter, and or lines clogged up. If your getting gas up to the front of the motor then it in your injectors? it one or all.
