no they are bad, unless its brakes
a real mech , checks both.
its one or the other, or worse. bad axle gear/bearings/

keep in mind jeeps may have different axles.
2wd, 4wd, and locking axles (options)
models 30, 35 and 44 so the details vary that is why the book wins here. the real book wins.

diagnosis is an other matter, i have an electronic stethoscope
that allows me to drive and hear each bearing. cost me $35.

id inspect brakes first. after all they are in clear easy view.
make sure the brake parts are not seized. that includes
the Emg. brake parts !!!
does you car have ABS brakes?
some have drums others have rear disc brakes, the linked FSM
covers both.

for example disc calipers can fail in many ways
guides seized.
pistion seized
emg brake part stuck.
cracked rotors, or warped.

so that be first a real brake inspection on side that makes noise.

if the brakes are ok, then axle bearings are checked next
if you feel radial play they are BAD.
and more. ask.

My Toyota RAV4 2004 wagon when I put on handbrake position parking but still moving reverse( to back)

ok hard way, just for you,
x2 , as brakes wear the handle can go wrong (emg. brake).
but, dont mess with that yet that is last , or not at all.
why?
did you service the rear brakes first. by the book
the FSM book and read the words on EMG, brake there.
how to test it and make sure its right?

here ill qoute the FSM just so you can see facts and truth.
1st things go 1st.

  1. Make sure the brake shoes are properly adjusted first.
  2. Pull the parking brake up using a normal amount of force and count the number of clicks. It should be between 6 and 8.
  3. If not, remove the rear console box to access the parking brake adjuster.
  4. Loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting nut until the travel is correct.
  5. Tighten the lock nut and reinstall the rear console box.


the cars have both disk and drum brakes. on rear.
the disc setup has a top hat rear shoe setup. like mine.
the rotor stops car , with foot brake
the here, inside it the top hat brake (drum)
(put rotor on your head it looks like a top hat) thus the name.
replace the shoes if bad.or just adjust them. per below
I BET now the hand brake work like new. and no mess with 1-5 above. (99% of time)

Why does the rear brakes stay closed when on drive.I changed the brake pads,


both rear lock?
that be you did them both wrong?
there are adjustements that need to made
and checks,not just slam in pads
the FSM book covers how to do it right ever consider reading that first then act?
  1. pistons in calip, no seized,
  2. caliper slider pins seized.
  3. emg. brake, mechansim stuck
  4. emg, brake, not adjusted after all done, per FSM!
  5. brake pedal rod not adjusted, right for clearance to master cylinder (risks 4 wheel lockup)
  6. icing of parts, got ICE? we cant guess ice, and not stated.
  7. wrong pads, or put in wrong, or with shims wrong.
  8. more,sure,, why not get the brake man to fix this.> now since car is danger to all, you and others on road.

no year.
the hand brake 2 stages. (adjust worn or new brakes)
new brakes?
some cars have rear discs and separater emg brake shoes.
there are like 5 ways to do this, varies by years. and models and country sold, (laws) no matter what the rear end is set and checked first. IT'S BRAKE, so.....
im not looking yours up ,only general brakes 101
FSM read that, or alldata. to follow along sure.....

first the brakes need to be set right,
then ,if the cable needs adjust (usually not) then it must
and all cables have a jamnut adjuster in 1 of 2 places.
under car, or above floor pan under console.
on most cars, set it for 6 clicks.

this is all in general, i can not look up facts with no year.
my guess its a 200x car.


on my home cars, one is top hat brakes and has its own adjuster
the other has ratchet adjust in the special emg shoes.
another has funky, screw rack device that is a mini slave cylinder
in the caliper. and love to fail. so we never ever ignore this we test them , and inspect them first. then when all is perfect
the lever cable.
and it must be balanced, that takes skill and i will not attempt to say how. imagine using them and car veers.
