I have an oil leak and i believe it is coming from the valve heads right on top of the motor since the oil is coming out of the sides. i had an oil change and that is when they found it. it only leaks when the car is running. where are other possible places oil could be leaking?

The most likely cause would be the valve cover gasket. It is a relatively cheap and easy thing to fix and can be done at home . Hope this helps.

6 VE 1 oil leak top right timing belt cover

6ve1 engines are non interference and therefore will not bend valves and is why it uses a rubber timing belt.. leaks from top right hand side are likely the head gaskets on that side or the cam sprocket into the head seal has failed .. no biggie

Valve body leak 2002 dodge stratus

A vertical cover...I had to ponder that a bit. Still not sure. The valve cover sits flat on top of the cylinder head, with a gasket between them. The cylinder head is where your spark plugs are threaded in. The valve cover rests on top of the cylinder head. It's about 14-18 inches long and about 4 inches high, kind of rounded over so the valves and valve train will fit underneath. A gasket leaking motor oil is very common there, as a lot of oil is directed there and then splashed around to lubricate the valve train. The oil is supposed to drain through engine passages on down to the oil sump- the bottom of engine where oil is kept in the oil pan.

So if you have an oil leak, and it turns out it is the valve cover that is leaking, it's an easy fix-one of the easiest gasket replacements there is.

2002 tahoe back of motor oil leak, already changed rear main

If you have oil running down the side of the block (from above the oil pan) check the lower edge of the valve cover. Those gaskets often fail to seal when the fasteners eventually work themselves loose

Check the fasteners that secure the valve cover to the heads. Torque to 3 ft lbs.

If the leak persists... replace the gasket.

Have oil leak not heavy, but it leaks any answer were it could be coming from..

Valve Covers, Head Gaskets, Oil Pan Seal and a number of other spots. You'll need to clean the motor with Gunk Engine cleaner and then look for the largest build ups of oil and crud to get a better idea where it is.

Oil leak back top of motor

What kind of Mercedes is it ?
What size of the engine ?
On a 6.0L engine V12 , it is possibly crank ventilation valve assembly (oil separator), located on engine block valey.
V6 and V8 engines most likely valve cover gaskets.
Older ones , inline 6 cyl. engines - famos of leaking head gasket on a right rear corner.

Head Gasket?? Valve cover Gasket???

most likely it is the valve cover gasket. it covers the valve train where there is alot of oil to lube the top of the motor. if the head gasket was leaking it may have more signs of running poorly. also having coolant leaks also. so i will have to say valve cover gasket. now usally you may have a oil burning smell with it depending on the area of the lek but not always.

the valve cover can easily be seen when the hood is open. it is right on the top and where it meets the clyinder head is where the gasket is and the leak can be seen.

if you have more question please ask.

Oil leak on top front of 2002 f350 super duty diesel engine

if it's a diesiel the it's coming from your oil line to your turbo. if it is gas then it could be a leak coming from a leaking valve cover gasket.
