Sounds like the starter. If you can locate it,tap on it with a hammer 3 or 4 times and try to restart. It may take several tries but should eventually start because starters don't quite fail 100%,they just kind of get stuck. If you can't find the starter, call a couple of parts stores or a dealer, someone is always willing to tell you for free to attract your business. It should work and you need a new starter.I put in a used one a couple of years ago and no problems yet,but the decision is yours.Good luck! Oops,I didn't read it thoroughly, sorry.Since it started fine with a jump, and all you're getting is a clicking,it's the battery.Autozone will do a free battery check if there is one where you live. Please disregard the previous notice. The lights sometimes will stay somewhat bright, maybe unnoticeable even, but that's just the nature of the beast.A fully charged battery will actually read 13V,but a "bad" battery could read up to 11.9V and will still light the lights fairly bright, but it takes alot of power to start a car.Sorry about the misread.Anyhow, you got a good tip for starting when the battery is good too. Many people are surprised that works.

    :) Good luck! Greg

When you get that click click,it's usually your battery does not have enough power to start the car.The lights may appear nearly normal but require MUCH less power to run. Also, even though the battery is nearly bad,the starter usually turns at least once or twice(whir, whir),is the best I can describe it. lol As you discovered, when it's the starter, there's click click, but no whir whir lol.It looks funny just trying to describe it.Glad I could help. :)

Take it back to where you got it and make them refund your purchase price. If they refuse and you finianced it go to them, There a law called "The Lemon Law" that makes it unlawful to sell something like that. Sounds like you sure bought one. Don't do anything to it just get hold of the place where you bought it and tell them to come get their junk out of your yard! dhgill1949

Sounds like the computer has short in it. You can get a computer at Oreillys auto parts for around $140.00. You will need to call the part store and order the ecm and give them some info on your engine, so the replacement ecm can be programmed for your vehicle.

I bought a 2006 VW polo in November 09 with approx 70,00kms since that time I have driven 12,000kms and used 14 ltrs of oil!!!!!!! The ecp light has come on 3 times, the last time could not drive car, had...

This is quite an excessive amount of oil consumption. Unless you have noticed a leak under the car I would say that it probably has an internal part failure. You may be burning the oil in a cylinder with bad rings, or a gasket may be sending it into you cooling system.
I would have a good service technician check the engine out to find where the oil is going.
You shouldn't use more then a 1/2 a liter between oil changes unless you have a leak.

2006 Pontiac Torrent, won't start, changed battery, and it started immediately after, but 20 minutes later, it wouldn't start again.

I would check the cables for corrosion build up,clean the cable ends clean, and shiny, make sure the alternator is charging correctly, checked at the battery, with headlights on,and ac on high blower motor, the voltage should read 13.65 to 14.25 volts,no more,no less, then check the see if there is a draw, pulling the battery down, with the key off,if this was helpful, please rate, thank you.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.
