Question about Saturn SC2

1 Answer

I have a 1999 saturn and lately I have been having a problem where the key wont go into the ignition until after I play around with it for a little while. I am wondering if this is an easy fix or am I going to have to replace it?

You can buy a replacement lock cylinder from a dealer, they will set it so it matches your other keys. Or you can buy a generic one from a parts shop which will not match your existing trunk and door keys.

If you have some mechanical aptitude, go over to youtube and do a "saturn lock cylinder" search. You can watch someone do the replacement in a few minutes with some basic tools and you can decide whether or not you want to try it yourself. I paid extra for the dealer install so the keys would match and i would have a better quality mechanism..

My 2004 saturn Ion will not start after having recalls done a month ago..battery is good..no lights come on and sometimes you can get them to come on

A proper tech diagnosis is needed here. If the recall was to fix the defective ignition switch, and it worked fine up until now, i imagine you got a really bad deal from your dealer. I would definitely call the shop where you had work recently performed to see if they will help you out. They might actually come and tow your car back to get the job done right if you play your cards right.

Do a little research on the ignition switch problem online. There are a few repair kits out there that actually work better than the dealer parts. saturnfans.com has he recall topic on their front page.

2005 saturn vue...the ignition key is getting harder and harder to get to turn...even parked on even ground..usually have to play with the steering wheel to make it work...but its getting worse

Me too. I found the keychain I had was quite heavy and heard that could be a problem. Also when I turn the key now I lift the key upwards and have had no trouble lately. Hope that works for you too.

My steering wheel on my 1999 saturn sl wont move and the key will not turn

Hi!

I thing following happened: when the steering wheel is moved just a little bit with NO key inserted, it will lock itself (that's some common anti-theft measure).
In order to get it unlocked, you have to insert the key and gently push to rotate it while you also gently move the steering wheel left and right untill the lock is released.

Locked ignition. Can't get car out of park or turn ignition switch. Ignition is locked up.

you will most likely have to replace key cylinder. remove cowl around steering column, upper & lower, remove plastic cyl around key, you will need a paper clip to remove key cyl. small hole near back of key cyl, install paper clip end pushing down turn key cyl, to run position, jiggle key cyl to remove. auto parts store should have replacement. good luck

My key wont even go in the ignition swithc some times ,sometimes use wd 40 . how do i replace ig switch .I have don this on my escort before sat has plactic collar around it thank you Gloria

just make sure you remove the transponder before you play with it ,but try some engine oil in the lock first ,that fish oil spray isnt much good for anything as it dries out ,its only good for rubbing on your knees or back if they ache .

Key will not turn in ignition

Yes always try a new key 1st,Go to saturn dealer and let them cut one from the vin#,this will give you a very crisp key then use some spay liquid wrench (Get at local hardware) Spray into cylinder, then install new key. This will make the tumblers free up.Works 8 out on ten times.

Turn your steering wheel to allow the ignition to fully unlock while turning the key.

1999 saturn wont start

I just got this problem too! It is also taking out the radio, the rear window defroster, the ignition, and certain dashboard lights like the oil lamp. The keyfob doesn't work either. I'm searching the net for an answer but I'm suspecting the vehicle security module that controls the locks and cuts the ignition after car is stolen is defective and is causing this. I'm trying to find it and unplug it to see what happens. The unlock and lock relays are at the bottom left of your interior fuse box. I haven't tried pulling them out yet.
