1986 Ford F350 wont start

Try following the positive battery cable from the battery to the starter solenoid (not sure if you have an inner fender-mounted solenoid or a starter-mounted one. Take one lead of a pair of jumper cables and connect one end to the solenoid terminal with the cable from the battery, and take the other end of that same jumper cable lead and momentarily connect it to the other large terminal on the starter solenoid. If the starter engages when you do this, replace the starter solenoid. If the engine doesn't try to crank when you do this, you probably have a bad starter. Good luck.

Trying to take off starter on my 1999 ford f150 4.6 liter is it hard to take off or should i just take it in to a mechanic

tqojcaj3377, Most starters are held in place with three bolts. As you are standing in front of your vehicle facing the engine it is located on the left lower side of the engine. The first thing you do is disconnect the negative battery cable and set it aside away from the battery. Get under the vehicle. F150's have enough room under there so you wont have to jack up the vehicle. Take a light with you. Using a 13mm wrench or socket, remove the large power wire from the starter. Using either an 8mm or 10mm wrench or socket, remove the small wire. Sometimes this wire is just plugged in. Using a 13mm wrench or socket, remove the three bolts holding the starter. The third one is at the top of the starter and sometimes is hard to get at. Use a socket and ratchet with an extension for this one. Remove the starter. Clean the wire connections with some sandpaper or emery cloth. Reverse the procedure to replace it with the new one. Make sure that the wire connections are just snug and not too tight so you don't damage the solenoid. Replace the battery cable and try the starter at least three times to ensure that the starter and wires are tight enough. Good luck with this.

What combinations of sockets are used to remove 3 bolt on a starter on a ford f150 pickup

I just replaced the starter on my 2001 F 150 and had to use a 13 mm socket with a swivel and 3 long extensions. I reached the top and side bolts by going through the wheel well. You have to stick your head in over the tire to see the top bolt, but it was pretty easy to reach it with this combination. The side bolt I could either reach it from under the truck or through the wheel well, through the wheel well seemed easier using the swivel and extensions

How do i remove starter on 2001 ford f350 dually (7.3 l powerstroke)

Starter

Removal & Installation 1. Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables.
2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
3. Remove the starter terminal cover.
4. Remove the terminal nut and separate the battery starter cable from the starter motor.
5. Disconnect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
ø To disconnect the hard-shell connector from the solenoid (S) terminal, grasp the plastic shell and pull off; do not pull on the wire. Pull straight off to prevent damage to the connector and (S) terminal.
6. Remove the starter motor retaining bolts.
7. Remove the starter motor from the vehicle.
To Install:
8. Place the starter motor in position and install the starter motor retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to 15-20 ft. lbs. (20-27 Nm).
9. Install the battery starter cable and a terminal nut to the starter motor. Tighten the terminal nuts to 79 inch lbs. (9 Nm).
10. Connect the solenoid (S) terminal connector, if equipped with a starter mounted solenoid.
11. Install the starter solenoid safety cap. If equipped.
12. Lower the vehicle.
13. Connect the positive and negative battery cables.
14. Start the engine several times to check starter motor operation

Need to replace the starter on the 97 mitsubishi Diamante, how hard is it to remove and replace ?

To replace the starter you need to;
) Note if you have an anti-thief system and now to reset it if the battery is disconnected.
) Note the radio station selections if they are not saved if the battery is disconnected.

Now
) Disconnected the GROUND connector on the battery.
) Disconnect the electrical cable on the battery.
) Remove the 2 bolts holding the starter on. Remove the harder one to reach first.
) Pull the old starter out.
) Insert the new starter.
) Replace the bolt. Insert the easier bolt first.
) Tighten the bolts.
) Replace the electrical cable.
) Reconnect the GROUND connector on the battery.
) Reset any radio, clock or anti-thief systems.
) Return old starter for a core charge refund.
