The black ball is the purge. There should be a diagram under the hood somewhere that shows where all the diagrams go to. You can also go to autozone.com and register for free. Then login, choose vehicle, then choose view repair manual.

how many liters is this motor?

You can go to google images as well. Type in 02 sport trac vacuum diagram and there are tons of them as well.

Another thing you can do is copy and paste this link into your internet browser

when it asks for library bar code number, type: 22510011327253.

Then choose your vehicle and view a full chilton repair manual

Fuel line diagram for 2004 ford explorer sport trac

It runs from the tank to the frame(drivers side) up to the engine. I don't and you should splice fuel lines. I replace all of it. Plastic or metal. If the leak is coming around the sides of the tank, this could be the fuel sending unit.

My 2005 sport trac basicly chokes down and won't restart. After afew hours it cranks right up! Last time was one and a half years ago ! Until today.

Clogged catalitic converters can cause this. The engine will start and run for a bit, but as the engine tries to exhaust the gases they have no where to go. And this will shut th engine down. To check remove one of the 02 sensors in front of the converter. If it runs fine theres your problem. If the converters are clogged badly, your engine will run better, but maybe not as well as it should. the reason being is that the hole for the 02 sensor is not big enough to vent all the exhaust.

P2195 CODE ON 2003 FORD EXPLORER SPORT TRAC 4.O SOHC. I CHANGED OUT ALL THREE OXYGEN SENSORS, AS ADVISED, AND STILL COMING UP WITH P0171, P0174, AND NOW P2195. HAVE ALSO CHECKED ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS,...

Hello,
Very common concern with the Explorer, Explorer Sport Trac and Ranger with the 4.0l SOHC engine! The upper and lower intake manifold gaskets fail, causing vacuum leaks..It can be Extremely difficult to detect these leaks, because they only leak intermittently (usually in the AM after a cold soak)... As the engine warms up they seal back up! Sometimes the vehicle will idle rough, surge or stall after initial start up, then the symptoms will clear after it gets to operating temperature... Usually there will be no driveability symptoms at all, except the engine light coming on and setting lean codes.. The gaskets have been redesigned to correct this concern..

2003 ford explorer sport 4.0 and the chk engine light is on and the code reads lean on the left bank.. what can this be ? A vacuum leak maybe ? please help..

maybe a clogged fuel injector on that side. use a complete fuel system cleaner, like bg44k, sold at napa's. even stp works if you get the strong stuff. put it in a full tank & drive it out completly. should fix it.

Dying 2001ford explorer sports trac

I had the same problem. I would get to a red light or stop sign, and my tach would go to 1000, then 500 then, if I didn't rev the motor, it would die. It turned out to be a vacuum leak. A rubber elbow shaped 1" line on the top of the motor, toward the front, but underneath the black plastic linkage cover (3 screws to remove). I don't hear that well, but I had a friend listen, and he could hear the sucking/hissing sound. The rubber elbow slides over two pipes; one that is going to the front of the vehicle, then turns right and connects to a second pipe going to the driver's side. If not this line, look for others. Good luck!
