This problem sounds like it could be one of two things. It's possible that you have a bad Lighting control Module (LCM) or a dirty, worn or faulty turn signal switch.

  • Is a microprocessor based module that controls several vehicle subsystems.
  • Responds to electrical input signals from various switches, sensors and external modules.
  • Is located on the LH side of the instrument panel.
  • Subsystem functions include:
  • Headlamps with auto lamps.
  • Stop lamps.
  • Turn signal lamps/hazard flasher lamps.
  • Cornering lamps.
  • Parking lamps.
  • Backup lamps.
  • Daytime running lamps (DRL) .
  • Courtesy lights
  • Demand lamps
  • Back lighting.
  • Interfaces with the Driver Door Module (DDM) for illuminated entry and anti-theft systems.
A scan tool can be used to diagnose if this is the problem.
Turn the ignition switch to the "On" position and set the front wheels to point straight ahead.

Turn the ignition to the on position, (Don not Start) And straighten the wheels.
Make sure all the accessories are off and place the ignition in the OFF position.
Now locate the Restraint Control Module fuse in the fuse box and remove it with a pair or needle nose pliers or a fuse puller. Once removed turn you ignition to the On Position and look to see if the Air bag light stay lit, if it goes out you have removed the wrong fuse.
Now under the hood, remove the ground (negative cable from the battery) and wait at least 2 minutes for the power to diminish from all circuits.

Replacing the multi-function (Turn signal) switch is fairly simple. The steering column cover needs to be removed first. It is in two halves, top and bottom, and the screws are accessible through the bottom. There should be four of them - Philips head, recessed about 2".

To make it easier to separate the two haves once the screws are removed, it helps to have the tilt-wheel dropped to a horizontal or slightly downward position.

Once the cover has been removed, ( If air bag equipped) You will need to remove the air bag using a socket and ratchet, lift the bag slightly to reveal the electrical connections and remove and mark them for ease of installation.
You will now need to remove the signal arm by unscrewing it. You might find that you will need to use a piece or rubber and vise grips. It's tight, and the rubber, rapped around the switch arm is there to protect the finish when using the vise grips.
You'll see the mounting for the switch and the wiring harness connectors. The replacement should be fairly obvious at this point. There should be another four screws/bolts that hold the multi-function switch assembly to the column (two on top, two on bottom.

Thanks for your question, Dorrian

Emergency flashers work but turn signals dont

Your signals work on a seperate system then your flashers. Sounds like your multifunction switch is busted.

Signal lights not working

You either have two bad bulbs or the fuse for the turn signals is blown out.

No turn signals or brake lights on left and right but brake light on top

I agree. My brake light dont work. Only the third brake light does. The running lights work but when i apply the brakes the rear tails dont light up.
I currently have this issue along with the signals dont work unless I bang the top of the steering colum. The hazard switch doesnt work either. If the signals dont work it makes this very quick clicking sound on the passenger side. I checked the fuses and they are good. The bulbs still work. The brake switch works cause the third brake light goes on. And seeing as I am having a problem with signals.....GM says I have to replace the switch in the steerg colume. Its a little box about the size of a cigarette pack. If you take apart the panels off ( right behind the steering wheel, where the hazard switch is) ...that is where it is located. Its plugged into the signal lever. Hope this helpa....Good luck everyone with this issue.
