Left front brake freezing up on 2007 Saturn vue

Not an unusual problem - most common shortly after replacing the pads.

When replacing the pads it is important to lift the piston dust covers before forcing back the caliper pistons. The pistons should be ball-bearing clean and shiny but sometimes dirt, water and salt gets past the dust cover making the pistons dull, dirty and sometimes rusty. Forcing the pistons back in that condition is asking for a brake that is reluctant to release.
Often water ingress causes scale to form inside the caliper but the piston will appear dull and stained. The only solution is to dismantle the caliper, clean and reseal.

If you discover the problem is a faulty flexible hose, it has probably been caused by contaminated fluid so as well as a new hose a brake fluid change is a very good idea.

Make sure you compress brake caliper pistons completely back into caliper. Tip slide one of your owl pads in caliper (piston side) and use a large C clamp to compress piston back into caliper flush.

I want to change the rear brake pads myself .How to compress the rear caliper piston on 2007 vw jetta 2.5? Somebody told me to use the computer to release the piston. Is it true? Dominic

You can rent the caliper compression tool from O'rielly's auto parts and compress the piston. I did it and it was very easy and made changing the pads a breeze.

Unable to get rear brake piston to compress

Compress or push back into the caliper,is not the
issue. If you have a problem, open the bleeder valve

You have to flush brake fluid on ALL your vehicles
EVERY 2 YEARS anyway

What you need to do, is get a tool to turn in the piston
clockwise. That is the paking brake, ratcheted up as the
pads wear.

After you install new pads ,ratchet it up by hand until the
pads are tight to the rotor

New brake rear discs and pads on a ford mondeo 03 but can not get the caliper pisten to go back enough to fit pads

Loosen the brake fluid reservoir cap to allow pressure to escape. Use a large C clamp connecting it to the front of the piston and back of the housing. Turn the screw on the clamp to compress the brake piston then release the clamp. The piston will remain compressed allowing you the fit the housing over the new brake pads.

I cant seem to get the rear brake caliper to compress so it will fit over the new pads

There are two stlyes of calipers for the rears. One is ratcheting so the piston has to be turned back to colaspe. The other type compresses with a C clamp. If a large retaining spring is on the inner part of the caliper you have the ratcheting type. A brake cable will attach to the spring as well. If not it will compress instead

How to replace rear pads on 2002 saturn

You will need to unbolt the caliper, usally 2 bolts, take the caliper off the rotor, remove the pads. You will need a larger c-clamp or a caliper piston tool to compress the piston, if there are two indentations in the face of the cylinder piston, you will need a brake tool to turn the piston, clockwise a few times press in the piston and repeat until the piston is completely back into the caliper. Install the new pads and put the caliper back on. Make sure you pump up your brake peddle a few times after the job, before you take off.

Reinstall rear brake caliper on 2007 Jetta

If you look at the piston on the Caliper it has 2 grooves on the face where the Brake pad mates to it. There is a special tool to push and turn the piston back into the caliper bore. that type caliper is also used to apply the parking brake. cable attached to rear of caliper and to an arm with a heavy spring. If you go to Harbor freight they have an inexpensive set for this.

make sure you have the piston compressed all the way and the adjuster compressed all the way, if so check the thicknesses of the new pads and or rotors if they were replaced you may have a clearance problem that requires a little machining
