Question about Nissan Frontier

1 Answer

My air conditioning is acting up. When i turn it on I eventually begin to hear a humming type noise that gets louder. When this starts I feel a loss of power from my engine. At times I hear a loud screeching noie coming from one of my belts (along with the humming) and when it gets too loud it sounds like something gives up and I lose my cold air. I have checked the levels and recharged my coolant (R134a), that has not solved the humming, loss of power, screeching and occasional loss of cold air. I noticed that the pressure levels in my AC are fine when I first start it cold - I get cold air and everything seems ok for a few minutes and my fan clutch is spinning fast and cooling my radiator and condensor fine. But as the car warms up the fan clutch stops spinning fast and does not seem to be providing enough air, and the pressure levels in my AC get too high and it gets hot. I replaced my fan clutch with a new one and it worked the same way--it starts out fine but then it doesnt spin as fast and the pressure levels shoot up becasue the system is too hot. At least that seems to be part of whats going on. My compressor starts and stops sometimes, while my car is idling and the AC is on. When I turn it off the AC cluth still keeps spinning for a little. Even though it seems that if my clutch fan was spinning faster it would cool the system enough to keep it running fine, I can't say for sure that is the problem becasue it acted the same with a new fan clutch. I think it mght all be a compressor problem but I can't tell exactly or if there could be another problem.

That would be your a/c pump. It likely is lacking lubricant which is in the freon itself. If the pump is dry it won't hardly move and you will get noise. The motor will try extra hard to spin the pump and cause lack of power to the motor. The pump clutch may also be the culptrit.

I already added two cans of freon, do the pump and pump clutch just need to be replaced?

Yes. It is common just so you know. They are usually the first parts to go. Especially since they are both on the same unit.

My 2001 chevy malibu had been working fine up until this afternoon it turns but wont start, itmakes ahumming noise even when i turnoff key.

That humming noise may be your fuel pump burning out. Try turning the key to the on position while someone else listens near the gas tank. The humming should only hum for a few seconds so you won't have time to listen yourself unless you can hear it from inside. If the hum continues and doesnt shut off, it is likely a bad fuel pump. It is normal to hear a small hum for a couple of seconds , but when it starts getting weak, it will hum louder, longer, or not at all

Trans axle humming noise

If you go really easy on the gas you should hear & feel
all 4 or 5 gears shift, whichever you have

You should also feel converter clutch lock-up when in
the top gear, which you call overdrive.
That will occur around 40 mph if you stay steady on the gas

You can lightly hold the brake down & the (TCC) Torque Converter
should unlock & the engine RPM go up

I suspect you have no lockup thus wrong dash speed indicated

That will eventually over heat the trans

You get lock-up in other gears under certain load conditions

You could have a bad solenoid in transaxle & any other sensors
that play a role in shift strategy

Without more information it is hard to tell. Is the humming noise variable depending on the speed that you are driving or constant? Could be ground, radio, pulley, compressor noises hard tell.

The motor on my 2002 Deville has begun to hum.

Could possibly be the power steering fluid is low. This will make a humming noise and if it gets louder it could mean that the pump is really low. It is hard to diagnose these types of problems without actually hearing the vehicle run but maybe this will give you a starting point. Sincerely, Roger

Loud noise in front left tire 2004 Ford Taurus SES

You mentioned the noise was from the left (drivers side) front. The compressor is on the passenger side in association with the engine compartment. Question, once the noise starts does it continue while stopped or only while moving?
