Hello! There isn't enough current for the starter to work properly...Voltage is being dropped across one or both connections going to the starter motor...You'll need a digital voltmeter (it has a low scale)...Set meter to read less than 1 volt...Place the +probe on the center of the + battery post...Place the - probe on the starter motor +12 volt connection (other end of of + battery cable...The reading must be less than .03 volts...Repeat test by placing the + probe on the center of the - battery post...Place the - probe on the starter motor case...Must read less than .06 volts...Send results...

Hello! Clean both ends of the + and - battery connections...voltage is being dropped across the connections...Or purchase new positive and negative battery cables and be sure both ends are clean and tight...This should solve the problem...If you have any questions feel free to ask...Saailer

will try, thank you so much, somebody else said it might be the ignition switch but i dont think so cause i can hear it spinning. but thank you, i'll let you now.

Hello! You are correct...If the ignition switch were defective the starter motor would not spin...Two starters have been installed...The only fault that would keep it from operating correctly is lack of current...Poor or resistive cables and connections....Saailer

Have any after market parts ben changed since the starter went out? New flexplate of flywheel? Sounds like you are being sold the incorrect starter. Or worse your flex plate has stripped teeth. Look in and inspect flywheel before installing starter. As far as buying new starters and etc... always take the old one with you, as a comparison for the new replacement to ensure you are getting the correct components. Hope this helps.

the flywheel is fine. the starter wont pop out to engage the wheel.. could it be the ignition switch/

if the starter spins but wont pop out to engage the wheel then my friend is a bad starter. bench test it with some jumper cables. 1. strap it down to something so it can jump or spin during the test. a couple of rags, and putting it gently in a vice would hold it. 2. from your battery, put the negative cable clamp on the ground of the starter close to the mount holes, as this is where the best ground is. 3. from the battery take the positive clamp and put it on the big positive screw on the side of the starter, where you would place your in-vehicle positive cable. 4. using a piece of 12 guage wire touch from the positive clamp to the small solenoid positve screw on starter. (where you would normally connect the smallest starter signal wire) the starter should spin and kick out, if it doesnt, the starter is your problem

could it be that the original wire that plugs into the starter isn't making contact. i noticed that it wont lock in. also, could i take the plug off the old starter wire that came with the starter and splice it into my old wire so that it plugs in properly.

Open up the tail gate, you will see two torque screws on the inside beside the tail lights. take these out, this will free up the housing and you can change it from there.

I am hearing a grinding noise when turning the ignition on my 2005 dodge ram 1500.Truck is automatic and runs fine when in driving.

Have an auto electrician look at the problem but I suspect that the starter solenoid is starting the armature spinning before the pinion gear is properly engaged in the flywheel teeth. If so the starter can be repaired either by a new solenoid or adjusting the pinion movement before the armature gets power.

My 2008 Dodge 1500 5.7 auto, front axle wont engage, the transfer case engages

is the shaft from the transfer case to the front axle spinning? Check to see that your locker solenoid is still plugged in there's a plug on the drivers side rear of the engine about 10 inches from the starter that's the plug to the locker solenoid. If its plugged and your front drive shaft from the transfer case spins your locker solenoid is likely bad.

Transfer case wont engage

shift into 4wd and move truck a couple of feet.
if light is still off, park truck block the wheels set the park brake jack right front wheel and try to hand spin the wheel if wheel doesn't turn 4x4 is functioning properly but there is a wiring problem use an ohmmeter to check the 4x4 switch wiring fuse and bulb
if wheel turns freely the front axle or transfer case is not engaged
attempt to hand spin the front driveshft if the driveshaft will spin the transfer case is not engaged check the transfer case shift linkage, problem is in linkage or transfer case internals
if the driveshaft will not spin the transfer case is engaged properly
with trnsmission in neutral or park start engine measure vacuum on the two vac lines at front axle shift motor . one line should have approx 20" vacuum. other line should have none
if no vacuum measured look for vac leak or bad vac switch
if both lines have vac look for a bad vac swithc or ruptured cad actuator diaphragm
if one line has 20" +- VAC
move transfer case lever to 2wd measure vac again lines should have swapped vac signals
if no vac switch bad or 4wd shift likage needs adjusting
if yes vac motor bad or stuck or shift fork stuck
remove vac shift motor from the axle attach vac lines to shift motor engage disengage 4wd
does shift motor plunger move at least 1/2 inch
no shift motor bad
yes check axle shift fork and vac motor for binging

1995 Dodge Ram 1500 starter

You said it's a new start that was tested thoroughly, but just wanted to point out that if the drive mechanism is damaged or hung up, the motor may spin but not crank the engine. The drive gear should move out when the starter starts to spin, if it's locked up or turns freely either way, the drive is bad and needs to be replaced.

The other possibility is that the flywheel has some broken or damaged teeth that are preventing the starter from engaging. It may sound far fetched but there are really only a couple of reasons why the flywheel wouldn't be spinning, as a starter has a LOT of torque and shouldn't have any problem at all moving the flywheel.
