96 Camaro automatic transmission is "slipping." Is there something that can cause this that doesn't require a transmission replacement?

The obvious cheap fix solutions would be checking and changing transmission fluid, and checking and replacing transmission fluid filter. If you do all this and it continues to slip, the next fix would be removal and cleaing of the valve assembly, a detriorated filter can clog the valve assembly and cause it to duplicate the symptons of a failing transmission, but it is a last resort next to rebuilding and replacing the transmission. Hope this helps.

Yes sometimes the bands can be tighten up by a qualified Transmission person.or it could be a shallow pump pressure from your fluid pump or even a linkage adjustment..?

I have a 96 camaro and I need to replace my carrier bearing. Where can I find one?

I am not sure your car has a carrier bearing, but if it did it would be located on the drive shaft between the transmission and rear end of the car.

1996 Camaro. Putting out code P1870: Transmission Slipping. Transmission fluid changed absout a month ago. How can this problem be fixed?

The problem is usually caused bo wear in the valve body of the transmission. Transgo makes a kit to repair this. Can be purchased from a transmission parts supplier. You have a 4L60E transmission. The slip is not much but the computer will see it and cause high line pressure that will break parts.

2nd gear slips going in and out of 2nd

If 2nd gear slips a lot, the clutch for that gear is probably worn out. A rebuild of the transmission is recommended.

96 grand prix slipping transmission

Once it starts slipping in all gears it needs a kit. You need a hoist to get the thing out and back in. If you are looking for a low buck fix many junkyards will sell you a used one and put it in. They are almost always cheaper than a "Transmission Shop". If you have the tools and want to do it yourself buy a service manual for the car from eBay or Amazon or a former Pontiac dealer and have at it. It's not all that difficult with a hoist but it is still along day.

yes;;but before you do think back to when the problem started, did it start overnight, did you spot something different about the way the discovery was behaving have you checked fluid levels.Always rule out the simple things first.is there fluid dripping from undernieth the jeep.if your happy nothing simple is causing the problem then im afraid your automatic transmission has an internal fault, hope this helps.adrian
