Question about 2004 Kia Spectra

1 Answer

Where exactly are the spark plugs located on a 2004 Kia Spectra? I've looked at several diagrams, none in the owner's manual, and they are not very clear to me. THis cannot be difficult, but this isn't my father's engine where all I had to do was follow the wires. Thanks!

They have a cover over them they are right on top of the valve cover remove cover, then you will see something strange the coil is right over the plugs you have to unbolt the parts first.then pull up might have to twist a bit be carefull all those plastic parts are brittle take a pictue of it so you can put it all back together when you change the plugs ,take your time those plastic parts are expensive

No spark just means when you connected the wiring plugs, you either missed the one to the distributor or it isn't plugged all the way in.

Where are the spark plugs

Instructions Things You'll Need:
  • Spark plug socket
  • Socket wrench with extender
  • Anti-seize compound
  • New spark plug
  • Tension tester tool
  1. Step 1 Raise the hood and locate the battery. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Allow the engine to cool before attempting this process. Depending on the climate, it may take 30 minutes or more to cool the engine.
  2. Step 2 Find the spark plug cables on the Kia Spectra engine of either a four- or six-cylinder variety. The number of cylinders indicates the number of spark plug cables on the engine.
  3. Step 3 Turn the cables by the boot, or cover, that connects to the engine or directly to the spark plug. Disconnect one cable and complete the replacement process before removing the other cables to ensure the cables don't cross. Pull back on the cable to reveal the spark plug.
  4. Step 4 Remove the spark plug from the cylinder well with the socket. The extender may not be needed for 4-cylinder engines. Turn the socket in a counter-clockwise motion to unscrew the plug and remove it from the cylinder block.
  5. Step 5 Use the applicator supplied with the anti-seize to spread the compound over the threads of the new spark plug. This compound allows for easy removal when you need to check or replace the spark plugs.
  6. Step 6 Screw the spark plug into the cylinder well by hand. The spark plug needs to be tight in the well but may have to be loosened after the tension test finishes.
  7. Step 7 Test the torque of the spark plug with the tension tester tool. Normally the spark plugs on a Kia Spectra need 18 to 22 ft-lbs torque. Check the Spectra model's owner's manual or the manufacturer's package because some premium or performance spark plugs use different torques.
  8. Step 8 Reconnect the spark plug wire and turn it to lock it in place. Continue replacing the rest of the spark plugs. Reconnect the battery cable after you replace all the spark plugs.

CAN/T FIND THE SPARK PLUGS ON A 03 KIA SORENTO

The 2003 Kia Sorento with V6 has the spark plugs located under black plastic covers in the center channel of each cylinder head. Several brackets, cables, and hoses must be moved out of the way to access them. The manifold air intake tube needs to be removed on the right bank.
The left cylinder bank has coil-on-plug assemblies while the right bank has more conventional spark plug caps with sealing assemblies. The coil-packs are held with two 10mm bolts each and are difficult to get to. Use universal-joint sockets and an extension.
