Question about 2007 Pontiac Vibe

1 Answer

RPM won't go over 3000 even when in neutral with the gas peddle to the floor. RPM are even lower when driving, can't get the car over 30km/hr on level road in 3rd gear, lose power completely on hills.

If Check Engine Light is on, scan computer to find out the trouble code #.
(You can borrow one at AutoZone or other AutoParts stores.)

Check the following:

Dirty or clogged air filter/air duct
Dirty or clogged fuel filter
Defective fuel pump or restricted lines. (check fuel pressure with gauge)
Restricted exhaust pipes or failed catalytic converter, while somebody steps on the gas, put your hand on the tail pipe to see if exhaust is clear. Also check to see if the catalytic converter gets too hot when rpms are at 3000, (when plugged up, cat gets cherry red)

Check spark plugs gap, if recently changed, make sure wires were not mixed up.

Good Luck! Keep me posted!!

Car drives good but high rpm at 60 mph rpm is like 3000

Does your car have an overdrive or economy mode? 3000 is about right if you're going uphill at 60, your car is under heavy load or your not in overdrive. It could also be that your car hasn't shifted up to the next gear. On many automatics you can stomp on the gas pedal twice quickly, all the way to the floor, and that will make it up shift. Try that to see if that lowers the rpm's and gets it to shift up. If your car still wont up shift check the transmission fluid level with the car warmed up and running.

Ford windstar problems

Possibly a vacuum leak. I'd try checking the hose going to the PCV valve as it's a common problem with Ford engines. They generally collapse and melt a hole through the rubber elbow on the valve end but have seen the opposite end do the same thing on occasion.

Revs seem higher than normal in my 2005 Suzuki Swift Sport (3.3rpm in 5th @ 100km/hr) - is this normal? I also have a really high fuel consumption rate

2 issues,
1: MPG, you failed to say MPG, 15mpg? or 39? is 39 low?
what MPG? you never said it?

2: rpm cruise. (what drive line, A/T M/T ?) what tranny?
first google hit , is this it? this yours?
engine: 1.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol, 75 kW/133 Nm
Transmissions: 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic, FWD

3300 RPM in 5th and 100km
if you wish to now what is normal, find the final drive ratio, listed in the FSM. Id say this is normal. typical of tiny engines, with low lower RPMs.

if you have the A/T and IF the trannywere to slip, the TCM will infact throw DTC codes, telling you it did.
IS IT? (scan tools show you this fact as might that glowing CEL lamp on the dash, on driving.

my 1.6L spins 3000 RPM , at below tranny options valve counts.
54/59mph (104km/hr = 59) 5sp MT.
64.6 4sp A/T (goes fastest due to more aggressive OD + axle ratio is lower.)
56/.53 2sp A/T
see how drive line effects RPM? so will your cars options.

Vehicle is throtling at 800 rpm, once you put in drive the truckt wont go forward, even after pressing on the accelerator the rpm stay at 800 rpm, will not rev at all even if peddle is in the floor

chances are this vehicle is what they call "drive by wire". it incorporates 2 position sensors, one on the accelerator pedal and one on the throttle body. if one is not working it will not accelerate. have it towed to your dealer to be corrected.
