You will need to put the number one cylinder at top dead center. (front driver side cylinder) you can do this by removing the number one spark plug and place your finger over the hole then have a helper turn the crankshaft till you feel air push your finger. then look at the harmonic balancer and turn the crank to make sure the line on it lines up with the 8 on the timing tab. then position the distributor in the hole with the rotor button pointing towards the number one spark plug. (may be necessary to put a long screwdriver in the hole for the distributor and turn the oil pump actuator in order to let the distributor fall all the way in.) after it is in put sparkplug dist. cap and other parts back on ready to start and set timing. firing order is 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2

Firing order diagram for 91 camaro rs v6

See Figures 1, 2, 3 and 4
To avoid confusion, remove and tag the spark plug wires one at a time, for replacement.
If a distributor is not keyed for installation with only one orientation, it could have been removed previously and rewired. The resultant wiring would hold the correct firing order, but could change the relative placement of the plug towers in relation to the engine. For this reason it is imperative that you label all wires before disconnecting any of them. Also, before removal, compare the current wiring with the accompanying illustrations. If the current wiring does not match, make notes, to reflect how your engine is wired.

Im getting to much fuel my 1992 camaro rs 5.0L 305 v8 TBI. its running real rich. ive replaced the cooliant temp sensor, throttle position sensor, fuel pressure regulator, spark plug and wires, distributor...

The precatayltic O2 sensors or sensor may by malfunctioning. These are the O2 sensors that tells the ecm to adjust the air fuel ratio according to how much oxygen content is in the exhaust. If for some reason it thinks to much oxygen content is in the exhaust it will tell the ecm to add more fuel. The post catalytic O2 basically is used to monitor the catalytic converter function and should not adjust any air or fuel. Is the check engine light on and are any codes presnt?

Please let me know.

The transmission is a 700r4 not really a size for this. what you probably mean is what gears are in the differential, these should be either 3.73 or 2.73 depending if manual or auto. (owner of a 92 rs with a 305)
