Question about 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada

Need to know how to tell if the compressor clutch is engaging in a 2001 Olds Bravada. It just got recharged and is still blowing warm air.

You will hear the AC compressor clicking on and off if working. If it clicks on and off all the time that tells you that the unit is low on freaon. If it clicks on and stays on the compressor is operating fine

The pressure means nothing as far as the state of charge. You need to have the system completely evacuated and recharged with the specific charge weight for that vehicle. Only then can the pressures or anything else mean anything.

Check that the heater is turning off as the hot air will over come the cool air. Check that the clutch on the a/c pulley is still engaging as it the unit was over filled or has a leak from a badly fitted pipe the high low switch will not allow the compressor to work.. If the work was done professionally check that the correct gas was used and seek warranty for the problem.

If so, the compressor is working and the A/C system probably contains enough refrigerant to make cold air, so the problem is inside the HVAC unit. Replace the motor that controls the blend air door (this is a difficult job and best left to a professional since it involves tearing apart the HVAC unit -- about an 8 to 10 hour job!).
If the compressor does not engage when you turn on the A/C, see if it will run by jumping the compressor clutch wire directly to the battery (use a fused jumper wire). If the compressor works when you jump it, and the A/C blows cold air, the system contains refrigerant and the fault is likely a bad A/C compressor clutch relay or a bad clutch cycling switch or pressure switch.
If the compressor does not engage when you jump it, the problem is a bad compressor clutch.
If the clutch engages but the compressor does not turn (the belt will start to slip and squeal), the compressor is locked up and you need a new compressor.
If the compressor clutch engages and turns the compressor, but the A/C still does not blow cold air, the system is probably low on refrigerant and needs to be recharged

My air conditioner is blowing warm air on the driver side and cold on the passenger side

Had the compressor replaced on 2003 Ford Taurus, A/C was recharged, but today it only blows out warm air.


have the AC tech performed a leak test on the system after recharging? is the expansion valve and filter drier as well as the o-rings for the fittings replaced? check also for possible leaks in the system in the fittings of the hose and in the evaporator housing. also check if the magnetic clutch of the AC compressor is engaged, you will hear a click when it it engaged.

My AC suddenly stop working, I was driving and the AC was running but as I said it just start blowing warm air


Your A/C system may have lost its charge of refrigerant, or the compressor may not be engaging when you turn on the A/C, or the blend air door inside the HVAC unit may be stuck in the HEAT position so no air goes through the A/C evaporator.
Start with the compressor. Does it engage when you turn on the A/C?
If so, the compressor is working and the A/C system probably contains enough refrigerant to make cold air, so the problem is inside the HVAC unit. Replace the motor that controls the blend air door (this is a difficult job and best left to a professional since it involves tearing apart the HVAC unit -- about an 8 to 10 hour job!).
If the compressor does not engage when you turn on the A/C, see if it will run by jumping the compressor clutch wire directly to the battery (use a fused jumper wire). If it is out of refrigerant or is low, check for leaks, then have the A/C system vacuum purged to remove air. After the air is out, it can be recharged with the specified amount of refrigerant. It is important to get any air out as this will reduce cooling efficiency and may make the compressor noisy.
My advice to you if you know nothing about A/C service is to find a repair shop that specializes in A/C repairs and let them fix your cooling problem for you. Today's A/C systems with automatic climate control are very complex and reuire special tools and know-how to diagnose and repair.

Alero compressor is not turning and blowing warm air


I'm guessing your talking about the A/C compressor? If so, you can unplug the 2 wires going to the compressor clutch and apply 12volts to the clutch end of the wires to see if the clutch engages. If it does this rules out a bad pump. A number of other things can be wrong: maybe a bad pressure sensor or it's low or high on refrigerant.

I had exactly the same problem. When your engine is cold and off check the gap on your ac compressor with a feeler gauge, it should be between 0.3 and 0.5mm. If it is larger you need to re-shim which invloves undoing a nut on the end off the compressor and removing the clutch plate, then removing the appropriate shims (look like washers) then replace. The reason it blows warm after 10 minutes or so is because the ac compressor gets hot and the clutch gap gets too large for the electro-magnetic clutch to engage. Some people would say that you need a new compressor but all you need to do is a re-shim.
